It's going to be a November to remember.
But for now, let's get on with the show.
Woo!
It's Wee Wow Week.
Welcome back to Wee Wow, our hands-on crash course in Steam Fun 101 for the science seekers and inventoritos of tomorrow.
I'm Guy Raz.
And I'm wearing horseshoes.
What, on your feet?
I mean, I'm Mindy.
It's day four of our Wee Wow Tinkering Challenge and we're back in our laboratory of bad ideas, forever ready to continue creating the ultimate recess.
A recess activity that will help our bodies as well as our brains.
But before we begin the next steps in our tinkering process, if you're just joining us for the first time this week, go back to Monday's episode to catch up.
Don't worry, we'll still be here when you're ready.
Okay, let's get started.
This week we've been taking you through the tinkering process to create the ultimate recess for our bodies and our brains.
We've identified a problem to solve, came up with ideas on how to solve it, created a plan, tested that plan and found out that it was one big flop.
Okay, maybe I was a little too hard on us yesterday.
Our plan didn't work the way we had hoped, but lucky for us.
Improving is part of the tinkering process.
Looking at the data you collected from your testing trials yesterday, did your plan work?
Is there room for improvement?
If so, that's great!
And that brings us to where we are today.
It's time to improve on our plans and test them once again.
You might want to get your family and friends to help you improve on your plan as well.
After all, scientists rarely work alone.
Last night we got together with our friends to share our recess plan and what we discovered during our testing trials.
Then we asked them for some ideas on how they think we can improve it.
And here's what they had to say.
Cue the tape.
Zap is from a tree found in South America.
So we had to walk to South America.
Uphill, both ways, in the rain.
You kids these days got it, sir.
So, as you can see, our friends were literally no help whatsoever.
But maybe you'll have better luck.
Not so fast, Guy Raz.
Their bad ideas really got me thinking.
Oh, yeah?
Yeah.
Maybe our ultimate recess plan of popping water balloons with our armpits in an inflatable pool just wasn't challenging enough.
Speak for yourself, Mindy.
And then you revealed that you actually had an electric air pump all along?
Well, that took a lot of physical exertion on your part.
And in the end, you were able to stay focused on the mental challenge of separating the beans from the nuts.
That is true, Mindy.
So what you're saying is that...
We need to make our ultimate recess more physically challenging?
That's exactly what I'm saying, Guy Raz.
Well, I am not blowing up any more pools.
But what if I did?
I mean, not with my lungs, but with my electric air pump.
Of course.
So here's what I'm thinking.
We put the pool we used yesterday in an even bigger pool so that it's floating on top.
And then we have to use our balance to stand in the smaller pool while we nutcrack the water balloons with our armpits.
Well, suddenly this got very challenging.
And we'll dump melted butter all over the water balloons to make them more slippery and more challenging to pick up.
Suddenly this got more messy.
You ready to try it?
Well, I guess hand me the electric air pump.
Yeah.
And here's the even bigger inflatable pool.
Just pull it out of the closet here.
Okay.
Turning on the air pump.
Inflating the pool.
Wow.
It's the size of two Olympic-sized swimming pools, Guy Raz.
Here, I'll fill it with water.
Reggie, give me the hose.
Thank you.
Filling up the pool with water.
Okay, now I'll put the smaller pool in the larger pool.
Dump in the water balloons.
Throw in some melted butter.
Take off your dry clean only jacket.
Good idea.
Get inside the smaller pool without falling.
I feel very wobbly.
Reggie, set the timer.
Keep standing up.
Upright.
Don't fall down.
Balance.
Balance.
And let's bust some water balloons with our armpits.
Nutcracker style. feel like jello and now let's go test how well our new and improved design helped our mental concentration time to separate the beans from the nuts and while we're doing that we're going to take a quick break with a short message for your grown-ups hey grown-ups it's mindy and guy ross here from wow in the world mindy and i have some We'll be right back.

Phew!
We did it, Mindy!
We improved our design, tested it one more time, and recorded our data.
What does it show?
Well, according to our data, it looks like our ultimate recess design plan.
Improvements worked, Guy Raz.
I mean, mostly.
Look at this, Mindy!
You were able to fully concentrate on the nut and bean separating task this time.
And you only got distracted once when you smelled my fish pepperonis and wanted to take a snack break.
I'd say we're looking at an ultimate recess success, Mindy.
I'd say you're right, Guy Razzi.
Well, that's all the time we have for today's WeWow Tinkering Challenge.
But meet us back here tomorrow as we complete the final steps in the tinkering process.
When we'll reflect and share.
And that's where you come in.
If you've been tinkering along with us this week.
We want to hear all about what you've been working on.
Tell us about your ultimate recess plan what worked, what didn't, how you improved and, most importantly, what you learned.
You can share your story with us by leaving a message at 1-888-7-WOW-WOW.
You might just hear yourself on tomorrow's final day of WeWow.
