Are men still being paid more than women?
Thanks for asking. According to data from the BBC, men still earn more than women for the same work.
The difference in wages for the medium worker is 9 .4%.
The same as it was in 2017, when companies were first obliged to publish their figures.
The gap remains larger in the public sector, at 15 .1 per cent, compared to 8 per cent in the private sector, but neither have changed significantly from previous years.
The gender pay gap is closing at a snail's pace.
At current rates of progress it will take more than 20 years to close it.
That's just not good enough.
Ministers must step up or we will consign yet another generation of women to lower pay, said Trade Union's Congress General Secretary Paul Nowak.
Why is this still a problem?
One of the reasons is that companies are not encouraging or supporting women getting into the top roles, with banking and finance being one of the worst offenders, with women earning on average 22 .1 percent less than their male colleagues.
The construction sector only managed to reduce the pay gap by 2 .6 percent, with the average woman earning 78p for every one pound earned by a man, whereas at EasyJet the average woman takes home just 53p for every £1 earned by men.
The lowest differences can be found in the health, social work and accommodation sectors, with the median gender pay gap at 2 % across those industries, but, worryingly, in a number of areas, the differences have actually increased, for example in education, by 0 .8%.
What action can be taken?
Jemima Olchulski, chief executive at the Faucet Society, said, Reporting is a good way of identifying pay inequalities, but taking action is key.
