Today, we're going to do a full beginner guide on AI.
Because as many people have said, AI is the latest and greatest high -income skill you can acquire.
But the thing here is that it isn't like other skills because most high income skills that you're told to learn right now like social media or digital marketing or web design or programming, those things are bound to change as time goes on.
That's just what happens.
the skills that we use in work and life change as the environment and the world changes.
But AI specifically is one of those new meta skills that when you learn it, it complements every other skill you learn.
So while AI is going to change, sure, the other skills are going to change faster and the skills that come into your tool belt as the world changes will be benefited and you will be better at those things and more effective at those things if you have AI as like an umbrella for those things.
Now, we've talked about metaskills before like writing, psychology, human nature, other things like that, all of those, when paired with AI.

But AI is one of those things that, when you learn it, you can do just so much more.
Now of course, some of you are skeptical saying things like, Dan, didn't you write like five newsletters on how AI won't replace creative work?
That's correct, but many misinterpret that because they think in black and white.
Just because I talk about one negative relating to AI doesn't mean I'm anti AI.
Or people say AI is going to destroy the world, ruin all creativity, and take away our source of purpose.
And no I don't think so.
I think it will simply ruin the lives of people who are already machines conditioned by a system that breeds useful workers.
In other words, those who don't pursue their own path create their own work and find their own purpose.
And the last one the more people use AI the dumber they will become that's true Yes, some people most people using it right now because they use it as the new get -rich -quick scheme But for every single thing that they do So if you stop viewing skills in general or anything in general as a quick fix Then AI can drastically sharpen your thinking and help you learn faster and remove a lot of the busy work from your life so you can focus more on the creative work.
But the thing here is that 95 percent -ish of people still don't understand the basics of AI.
They type one sentence into ChatGPT and expect it to change their life, and they're usually disappointed.
AI is a skill, and the thing about skills is that you need to learn them, and master them.
It's like Photoshop, in a sense, where it takes probably a year to get really good at it.
maybe six months. With AI you don't learn the skill by typing chatgpt .com into your browser and then typing a sentence into it and expecting it to one -shot any task you give it.
Especially if that task is pretty complex. So I want to give you a mini masterclass on AI.
So we're going to break down the absolute basics of how AI works, explain the different models, tools, and use cases for AI, because most people think that chatgpt is the only thing that exists.
We're going to learn how to write effective prompts by shifting from tasks -thinking to systems -thinking.
And then I'll give you a prompt for writing more effective prompts so you can get ahead of 99 % of people using AI.
And last, we will learn use -cases for AI to save multiple hours of work each week, improve your quality of life, and increase your chances at creative success.
As an example, I'm going to show you how I wrote a prompt that creates 15 nearly viral social media posts, which is kind of crazy, and then I'll show you how to copy anyone's voice or writing style or how to map out your own so that AI can write as you.
I'm going to show you how to generate profitable business ideas.
So let's talk about the basics of AI models and tools.
And I'll try to keep this part as brief as I can, because this is the kind of boring stuff, right?
This isn't going to be fun to learn.
and this is kinda just the base understanding.
And I actually had AI condense this section for me because I tend to ramble a lot.
So even if this goes on for maybe five minutes you can always skip past it, but just know that this is half of what I originally had.
One more thing here is to go watch the videos from Andre Karpathy.
He is a founding member of OpenAI.
He knows this stuff.
He knows LLMs. If you want the really technical breakdown rather than the what you need to know breakdown that I'm going to give you.

So let's start with the basic models.
A basic model that we know today is an LLM or a large language model.
That's what we consider AI.
When you chat with a basic model your text gets converted into tokens for processing.
You can think of tokens as pieces of words, so sometimes a full word, sometimes a part of one.
For example, chatting might be and Ting as separate tokens.
This is how the AI digests text with most models processing thousands of tokens at once.
Now each time you start a new chat in something like chatgbt or clod or grok, it starts a fresh context window and that context window determines what tokens the AI can remember.
So you can think of a chat or a context window as like the working memory of the model.
So the more you chat with an AI model in the same chat, the larger the memory becomes.
And if you go over the context window, then the AI starts to forget some stuff or it starts to push certain things out of the model.
So most of the time if you're not always working with in OneChat, it's just wise to start a new chat when you want to start with a fresh context window.
Now the major players and models so far include OpenAI which has Chat GPT Anthropic, which has Claude, Google, which has Gemini, XAI, which has Grok, Meta, has Llama, LeChat, has Mistral, and DeepSeek has things like V3.
And each company releases improved versions of these models over time.
There used to be Chat GPT 4 .0, now there's 4 .5, there used to be Claude Sonnet 3 .5, now there's 3 .7, there used to be Grok 2, then 3, eventually 4.
And all of these models differ based on a few things.
So first, there's pre -training, where models learn from data that's typically 6 -plus months old which means they don't know recent events unless connected to a search tool.
It's like they read the internet to collect all of this data until a specific date and then it stops.
So when you're talking with a model like ChatGPT 4 .0 asking it specific questions about recent events isn't the smartest thing to do, so there's tools for that which we'll talk about.
After pre -training is post -training, so that determines the personality and tone of the model.
So you can compare ChatGPT 4 .0 to 4 .5 or you can try Grok's unfiltered mode or things like Claude Sonnet are notoriously good for having a good personality and writing style.
The next thing they differ on is the context window.
So this is the amount of text the AI can remember in one conversation.
So some models like Gemini can handle entire books at once while others might forget earlier parts of a long conversation.
The last thing they differ on is pricing, which ranges widely like DeepSeek v3 and Gemini are cheaper compared to Claude.
So you can always look up the pricing, the context window of various models to determine whether or not they're beneficial to use for what you want to use them for.
The thing here is that I would recommend experimenting with more than just chat GPT.
Try out Claude, try out Grok, try out Perplexity, try out the things we're gonna talk about.
Or you can use a tool like Cortex where we have a model switcher, so you can use that and talk with any model anywhere, so you can try them all rather than paying for subscriptions for them all.
And those companies still get paid because we're paying for API usage.
Now, after basic models comes the thinking models.
So when basic models aren't enough, reasoning models or thinking models like ChatGPT -01 or ClaudeSaunet 3 .7 in thinking mode, or DeepSeek R1 provide extra processing power.
These models are usually more expensive because they use more tokens and do more work, but they simulate a human -like problem -solving process that you can usually see, like the image here of DeepSeek thinking, and you can read through how it thinks through the problem that you're giving it.
So these reasoning or thinking models are well worth the cost, but you don't want to use them for just basic tasks.
You want to use them for complex problems or writing or specialized programming and things that are beyond just basic knowledge.
So after basic models and thinking models comes just AI tools in general because basic models alone have some limitations.
They can't access current information.
They process one prompt at a time and their general purpose, unless specifically instructed.
So tools like Internet search or deep research address these gaps.
So proplexity, which is another tool or app that you can download on your phone or using cortex when it's inside gives models access to the internet and has specific training and fine tuning that makes it somewhat of a Google search on steroids.
I type most of my Google searches into perplexity now and I get much better information, at least I think so and from there I can go off and search more.
Now Deep Research, which I believe was first started with chat GPT.
If you go to chat GPT, there's like a deep research button.
And what this does is it pairs the internet search with thinking capabilities, and it takes a lot longer to do, but it spits out a comprehensive research with sources to explore and fact -check.
So this saves hours for writers or researchers or anyone who wants to find a lot of information on a specific thing.
Now after tools comes wrappers.
Wrappers are software that integrate the AI models for specific workflows or specific use cases, so Perplexity is an example of a wrapper.
I believe they have their own model that they're training, but they use chat gpt or clod or grok in order to pair that with internet search and I believe they've grown to 80 million arr, so you can build a massive company just by being a wrapper even though it's not that easy.
Another example of this is Cursor, which is a It's where you write code with AI that can access your code base, and they grew from 1 million to 100 million ARR in under 2 years, which is faster than OpenAI.
So it's funny to think that a business built with OpenAI's technology grew faster to 100 million, that's crazy.
So this kind of shines a new perspective on what AI actually is, or what these LLMs actually are.
They're like the new Google cloud where other businesses is use them and they become ingrained in technology all around, as we know them.
And they're eventually going to evolve far beyond just chatting with AI.
Now the last example of a wrapper is something like Cortex, which is a note taking tool, a writing tool, an idea capture tool that allows you to synthesize all of your ideas in one place.
And while you could use ChatGPT alongside these things, like you can have your programming open in one IDE, and then you can have ChatGPT on the side And you can copy paste things between or you can have your nodes open and you can just shift between the two and have 10 tabs open at once when you're trying to accomplish one specific thing usually using a new software that does that.
Well, and it's trained and fine -tuned the model even further with prompt engineering is better than copy pasting between the two and having to do all of these extra steps.
So you can think of open AI as the new Walmart of the digital world and wrappers are like the boutique health.
supplement stores that do one thing well.
Alright. So we've gotten through all of the boring stuff, just a fundamental understanding of what's going on, and now we need to learn how to actually use these things.
We need to understand the new skill that is prompt engineering, or writing prompts or writing systems for the AI to use in order to do the thing you want it to do.
Becoming good at AI is about shifting from tasks thinker to systems thinker.
When you write prompts or strings prompts to achieve something like writing 15 social media posts, you are building a system in written text.
It's similar to writing code.
You have a vision for the project.
You understand the steps to get there.
You execute tasks to the best of your knowledge until it's complete.
So AI doesn't change the process of achieving something, it just makes it faster if you know what you're doing because you have more knowledge available and you can overcome or identify blind spots a faster.
But that presents a trap.
AI doesn't make up for a lack of competency.
I don't mean to add fuel to this fire, I actually kind of feel bad for the guy, but there's someone on Twitter who vibe coded.
Vibe coding is a thing where it's like you don't write any actual code you just have the LLM spit out whatever it spits out and hope that it does it okay.
Without having an understanding of the the fundamentals of programming.
And it led to this guy exposing his API keys and people started hacking him in a sense and just running up his usage bill and it sucks because he thought he was going to Be able to build this thing without any programming knowledge and probably gain a lot of status from it because everyone who does this likes to makes the post of like, oh I just built this entire app with Without writing any code and it's a cool hook.
It's cool. It's attention -grabbing But as someone who works with an engineering team of eight people, it's not that simple It's really not my eight engineers all use cursor.
They all use AI They know what they're doing and they're not One -shotting certain features inside of our app because it just doesn't work that way in a production level software So with that we're gonna see a lot of apps popping up that just aren't it's gonna be like flappy bird They're not gonna be around a year from now or people are gonna feel so bad about themselves that they're gonna take the apps down So I hate to break it to you but AI is not this get -rich -quick scheme that you're constantly looking for.
You still have to be competent, and building competency still takes five to 10 years.
So just typing one sentence into AI or having it code something or write something for you and you have no idea what's going on, the inner workings of it, then you're going to get nowhere.
Maybe in the short term, you'll feel like you're making progress, but you won't in the long term.
In fact, you'll just be wasting your time because you didn't actually learn anything.
You typed a few sentences, but of course, if you're just looking for an answer from the new Google search, then yeah, typing one sentence into Proplexity is fine.
But for most other use cases, you need to get very specific and detailed with your prompts, so that's what we need to learn to do.
Now, there are two types of prompts here that I want to talk about.
The first is a system or a meta prompt that's like the first prompt that you send to the model to frame what you're trying to accomplish, and then the second are just the subsequent prompts after that which are usually like revisions or Adding in more context or refining the response so that it gets better and better so I want to show you an iteration on this tweets prompt that I've had going for a long time and I personally use this to come up with ideas for social posts based on my newsletters because when writing a newsletter I have difficulty going through and like extracting ideas from it
if I plug it into this prompt it'll spit out 15 tweets for me based on the ideas inside of it so it does that for me when normally my best tweets are just like off the dome and I continue doing those but I also want to stay on topic for the week related to my newsletter and so I use this as a way to pump out structured ideas that I can then use for inspiration almost never do I use the posts that it spits out word -for -word, I just use it side -by -side to rewrite because I can write it better.
I think so. So the way that I started this is really just by writing step -by -step instructions for how I wanted the tweets to be written and I created examples for them.
So I found some of my own top tweets and some other tweets that I liked from other people and different different styles of tweets, so I have like multiple examples for one sentence posts and multi -line paragraph posts and lists posts like this, and then the structured output.
So the best way to think about going to make a prompt is to just give a list of steps and refine them over time based on what you want to do.
So once you have the list of steps, then you can try the prompt inside of something like a chat or in cloth or in chat, GPT or in anything and then you can slowly add to it to make the output better and better and better.
Now when it comes to actually creating a good system prompt or meta prompt you want to follow this structure.
So first you start with the system section which is where you assign a role in description of the task.
Then you have a context section where you can reference information or give it an expectation of what you want to do and then follow that by an instruction section where you give it detailed instructions to accomplish the task and then optionally in the instruction section as well you can add examples or specifications or different things like that so if you have specific examples for something like a social post you can add them like I'll show you how to and then after that comes a constraints section so what to avoid or include that may not be taken into account and then lastly the output section which is telling
it how to format the output how you want things to be put out now you don't need the output section right away because you can just send the prompt and then see how it outputs things and then change it from there.
So inside of this tweets prompt what I did is I have the instructions and then I have the examples under it and I've written this multiple different ways but I listed all the examples here and what these are called is XML tags so it looks like HTML in a sense but you have these inside the prompt and it just makes it more accurate as far as I know.
You don't necessarily have to use these you can just replace it with something like a and type like context here and just structure it like a document and that usually tends to work out.
So here's another example of something more practical for those who don't want to write social posts.
This one is a content summarizer so it's a better way of summarizing content where if you just tell the AI to summarize something it'll do okay but I want the the fluff, I want the nuanced perspectives, I want things like that.
So there's the system part right here there's the context there's the instructions which are a lot deeper than just writing one sentence into AI and then there's constraints and then the output format so you can look through this and see how it actually details things and it gives specific time stamps if you're using a video it gives nuanced perspectives underlying assumptions and this helps me learn the things so much easier if I'm learning from like a YouTube video and I want to reference that later I'll go into a chat here because we have this content summarizer and all other prompts here if you
go to the learn category inside of cortex and then comprehensive note or video summary I already have one of my videos in here so I can type I want to summarize at how to get ahead of 99 % of people I'm gonna switch this to Gemini just because it's better at handling large amounts of information send that and then it should spit out a pretty comprehensive summary with key points contextual framework detailed breakdown And other things of that nature and this is actually a new feature So I missed the styling on this.
But if you use it, it will actually Separate these and add bold and headlines and other things, but just giving you an idea of what's inside this This is my staging environment.
So this isn't what's actually live on the app right now that you can use now I kind of yanked your chain there but for good reason because I wanted to teach you how to actually create a system prompt before you take the shortcut and use this route so this is a system prompt system prompt where it's pretty much what I have used for a long time where I'll send this entire thing to a reasoning model or Claude and then follow that with what kind of prompt I want to create with a lot of information related to that now I can get pretty extreme with this because when you're creating something like a social
post prompt or how to write a newsletter prompt like this this system prompt prompt isn't gonna do it all for you Right, it doesn't know how to write a newsletter So this is just for creating a better prompt that helps you structure things and get better results and refine the output a lot more so whenever you are Creating a prompt that you want to use for something that you do like creating a newsletter or YouTube video or whatever It may be copy paste this prompt or if you want to use cortex You can go to chat and then right here write incredible AI prompts that has the system prompt as the system
prompt So you can say I want to create an AI prompt that and then describe it in as much detail as you can And then it will ask you clarifying questions on what to do next So I want to create an AI prompt that helps me write a YouTube Video script and then I'll send that but it'll respond with a few questions and then I can answer these questions and give a really detailed specifications and it says your preferred script length or format so I can also paste the YouTube video link in here and it will extract the transcript and I can just say use the exact structure of this viral YouTube video and then
it will start to create a prompt around that and you can try it out, refine it as you go, so on And so forth and then inside of something like cortex, you can just save the prompt inside of a document So let's just call this prompt or we can use the tweets prompt so if I go to chat again, and I say something like use at tweets prompt to write 15 tweets based on ideas from at newsletter how to achieve your goals so fast and then I send that and It will write me 15 tweets We have one sentence post because this is how I structured the prompt We have multi -line paragraph posts five of those and then
we'll have list posts under them Boom boom boom.
And so if we look at all of these you can see that there are decent tweets right where it's like your mind rejects the information you need to succeed because you're trapped in the shell of your lower self that Refuses to evolve that's actually pretty good For for my standards, right?
You may not like the philosophical or like short pithy quotes for but for something that I would post based on the newsletter that I Wrote that's really good.
Right so you can use that like you can use the document as the prompt So if you create a good prompt that you like you can paste it in here and then just use it By referencing it in a chat and we may eventually get to the point where we have like a custom section here We're definitely gonna have templates at some point So you can build your own workflow inside of cortex now.
We need to talk about Practical use cases for AI so you actually know what you can use it for and how you can start using it today But here's the thing I personally just cannot give up my writing like we have plenty of prompts that you can use to create YouTube video scripts and newsletters And social media posts that I personally created for you so that they're good.
But personally I like using those four ideas I just I can't give up the writing.
I like my writing in the morning So that got me thinking about just what AI should be used for in general.
AI should be used to enhance the creative work you love and automate the busywork you hate.
For some people, their busywork may be writing.
They may hate it. I don't see it as a problem if they want AI to spit out a bunch of SEO articles or write a bunch of social posts for them.
AI should be used to help you focus and perform better at your craft. So in order to find out how AI can best help you, write this out.
What do you do every day?
Which parts do you love and not want to give up?
Which parts do you hate and don't require creativity?
How can you incorporate AI into your routine and build a library of prompts to help you get through the work you hate faster?
Even if AI doesn't save you time on your creative work, does it matter?
Because better information increases the quality of that work.
So now we're going to talk about a few potential use cases that you can create prompts for if those use cases apply to you.
When you create these prompts, you can store them in your Notes or whatever app you want to use, so that you can easily copy -paste them, or reference them, or do however you would in whatever Notes app you use.
It's just easier in Cortex if you want to use that.
And since all the models are in, you don't have to pay for all of the other models, you just pay for one software.
Now, use case number one is the new Google Search. If AI models Right now aren't improving your productivity by at least 2x You are using them wrong or haven't changed your current habits to bias AI now for those around my age you probably struggled with a similar problem where my mom or just your parents in general ask you a Question and you immediately think like why don't you just google search that as kids my generation our generation?
We had this productivity superpower and we didn't even know it and so many people still don't know how to use it We had superpowers because we had access to Google.
We could find new opportunities, explore our curiosity, and get answers to questions without digging through textbooks or sending a letter to an expert who could answer it.
That is a crazy amount of power that every individual has.
Now this may seem like a lame AI use case for you.
Oh, the new Google search. But I ensure you that it is one of the most powerful of them all.
Really take a second to think.
What has Google search done for your life?
Actually think about it because you take it for granted and now multiply that effect by 10x So here's what you do Retrain your habits to open up an AI tool Whenever you would ask Google a question use a search tool like perplexity to ask questions fast And you can also continue adding to the search to dig deeper and when you're on your computer you can use a tool like cortex to open up a floating AI chat using alt or option a to open a I while you work like summarizing a specific YouTube video.
When you get stuck in Photoshop or Canva or while you're programming, you probably use cursor while you're programming, so let's use that.
When you're editing a video or writing a social media post or researching a YouTube video, choose the right model and ask your question and get the answer fast so you can continue going about what you're doing.
I'll create a video in the future about how to treat AI as a reading partner because I saw a it may seem like that on the surface, but that's not what reading is for.
So, another video on that.
The second use case is for learning faster or using AI as your intellectual sparring partner.
If success is a matter of having the right knowledge and implementing it, AI can at least help with the first part.
I heard a quote the other day as well, where it's like it's no longer about what you know, it's about knowing what you don't know.
Because if you don't know what you don't know, then you're not going to find that information.
So it doesn't matter if you're learning a new language, trying to understand a dense book, attempting to find a specific piece of information in a PDF and summarize it, AI can be treated as an intellectual sparring partner.
You can paste chapters of a book into an AI model, and ask it to dig deeper into specific concepts as you read.
You can write a prompt that turns the AI into a language coach that teaches and tests you on your progress.
So if we go back in Cortex and go to the Learn category of the pre -built flows, You can see that there's a learn any skill fast regimen a reading companion for understanding YouTube video to actionable steps and then even in the planning you can break down goals to an actionable plan have a personal growth advisor Any of these things and I'd actually like to see someone create a creative sparring partner one where it comes up with new ideas I might actually create that prompt and add it inside of here inside of learn or plan probably learn but one thing you can do here is I when you go to library
you can save YouTube video links inside of capture or chat, and you can drag in PDFs into here, and you can see that I have some of my videos, I have my book, I have my new book, Purpose and Profit, and so I have the actual PDF in here that I can reference with the AI and whatever it is I do.
So if I open up a chat and I go to learn and I have Reading Companion for Understanding, I can say I am reading at Purpose and Profit.
And then the excerpt chapter or insight.
I'm trying to understand what chapter Employment vs. Entrepreneurship.
I like deep generalism quite a bit, but I want to learn about David Deutsch, so let's go to the progress and knowledge chapter Then Claude will overview it it'll read the PDF and so that takes a bit especially with Claude and then it will spit out the Understanding of it and then I can continue to ask questions specifically relating to that chapter or whatever else comes into play So if I'm reading a book inside of here, I can get that I can dive in deeper Beyond just what's inside the text now use case.
Number three is idea generation for creative work or starting a business So if you're writing a book newsletter YouTube script or anything that requires creative ideas There are a few things you can do You can feed AI a source of inspiration like a book chapter or social posts and ask it to break down the structure of it and why it works so many people Who are starting to write or write online rather than having AI write for you?
Have it analyze writing and break down the structure and why it works So then you can emulate that and learn faster because that's how you learn faster anyways So now you can learn doubly fast. You can give AI your target audience and ask it for 10 relevant pain points, 10 desires, and 20 headline or post ideas based on each, so you don't even have to write the post. You can just ask for post ideas.
You can create a prompt to write posts, outlines, or full pieces like we did before, and use those to pull potential ideas from.
And as you're writing, you can ask AI to rewrite specific sentences or sections in the voice of another person, like a stoic philosopher, to get a different angle on the idea.
And now like in terms of a business idea, there are a lot of things to take into account Like is the idea even viable?
Is it worth pursuing are there competitors in the market and other things like that?
So if we go to the plan section inside of here This is actually a massive system prompt inside of here But you can say my business idea is this and then I understand that this will take 15 to 30 minutes 20 questions total to Get an accurate analysis So you can go through this and it will research everything and figure out whether your business idea is actually good or not And we're creating an we have an entire video already out on It's called how to make a million dollars with AI which is kind of true But it uses all of these inside of that So if you want to learn this flow go watch that video
now use case Number four is kind of in line with that where it's creating a customer avatar and a voice analysis So copying your voice or someone else's voice because if you're a writer who doesn't care to focus on marketing writing landing pages promotions, and other things, you can get pretty creative with this.
So you can extract a YouTube video and have a prompt that breaks down the structure, style, and voice to write YouTube scripts based on that.
And when I say you can write a prompt here, I'm saying you can use the system prompt creator that we went over before and then give it these instructions and refine it over time until it matches what you're trying to do.
Or you can create a customer avatar that you can reference anytime you go to create marketing materials with AI.
Like taking that YouTube And having it create content specifically for your customer avatar and lastly one of my favorites is just a full voice Analysis so here there's the replicate any voice or style and it Spits out something that looks like this that breaks down Exactly how you speak and then you can use this whenever you want to write something in your own words With AI right?
It has example writing all of that fun stuff so if you want to take a viral YouTube video and then break down the structure of it with an AI prompt and then tell To rewrite it in your voice and style you have all of that here you just need writing to go off of right if you haven't written a newsletter or an article or a YouTube video or whatever it may be this Isn't really gonna work for you now use case number five is for personal growth and Clarity because most of your problems and your anxiety and your overwhelm stem from a lack of just that clarity You don't know how to overcome a problem.
You don't have awareness of the problem You don't have awareness of what you need to learn and most of you watching this really like the strategic advisor prompt that we went over in a different video or just on my Instagram but you can use AI for so much more than just that kind of prompt you can have it break down your goals into actual tasks and habits you can journal straight into AI and ask it to tell you about yourself the good and the bad you can have it identify the root cause of your problems and give you an insight to fix them and you can have AI become a logical problem solver to remove
your emotions from the mix now I'll stop here because I'm just spamming you with potential ideas but can take any of those, and turn it into a prompt with what you learned in this video, and if those actually help you, then you can return to it at any time inside of an AI tool.
Now what I want you to do is this.
