Hey, JJ, want to hear a story?
Yes, I do.
Can I please help tell it too?
Yes, listen close.
Let's imagine and rhyme.
It's Coco Melon Storytime!
What you munching and crunching on, JJ?
A pepper.
Ooh, yummy.
A red pepper.
Oh, so it's pretty too.
Reminds me of a story.
What story?
It's called a rainbow for lunch, the sun was high in the sky above a peaceful farm where a baby duck was getting hungry.
Mama duck asked what would you like for lunch?
Baby duck thought and thought some more until finally Baby Duck knew exactly what he wanted.
I want a rainbow for lunch.
A rainbow for lunch?
How do you eat a rainbow?
I don't know, JJ.
And Mama Duck didn't know either.
A rainbow?
Like one up in the sky?
Yes, said Baby Duck.
Mama Duck looked up, up, up at the sky.
It was clear and blue.
There's no rainbow in the sky, only the sun.
But let's keep looking.
Maybe we'll find one.
Yay!
They're going on a rainbow hunt!
And so, Baby Duck and Mama Duck waddled out of the yard.
Flip-flop, flip-flop.
They went past the cows.
Moo!
And they stopped in a field of red peppers.
Yes.
So when Mama Duck and Baby Duck got to the field of red peppers, they looked up up up, but they didn't see a rainbow.
Quack!
Oh, no, Daddy!
Baby Duck was sad.
He really wanted that rainbow for lunch.
You're right, JJ.
But just then, Mama Duck saw the red peppers in the field and got an idea.
We can keep looking for your rainbow, Baby Duck.
But while we're over here, why don't you pick a red pepper?
Just in case, Baby Duck thinks.
Well, okay.
There's no rainbow above my head.
Better take a red pepper instead.
So Baby Duck plucked a red pepper off the vine and said, Let's keep looking for that rainbow.
Baby Duck and Mama Duck waddled out of the red pepper field.
Flip, flop, flip, flop, quack, quack, quack, quack.
They went past the pigs.
Oink, oink, oink.
And they stopped in a patch of orange carrots.
They looked up, up, up, but they didn't see a rainbow.
Baby Duck saw the orange carrots and said to Mama Duck, There's no rainbow above my head.
Better take an orange carrot instead.
Mama Duck smiled as Baby Duck dug an orange carrot out of the dirt and said Let's keep looking for that rainbow.
Baby Duck and Mama Duck waddled out of the orange carrot patch.
They went past the horses.
And they stopped in a field of yellow squash.
They looked up, up, up.
But they still didn't see a rainbow.
There's no rainbow above my head.
Better take a yellow squash instead.
Baby Duck plucked a yellow squash off the vine and said, Let's keep looking for that rainbow.
So Mama Duck and Baby Duck waddled out of the yellow squash field.
Flip, flop, flip, flop, quack, quack, quack, quack.
They went past the sheep.
Mom!
And they stopped in a field of green broccoli.
They looked up, up, up, but... They still didn't see a rainbow?
Nope.
Not above the field of green broccoli, the field of blue corn, or the field of purple eggplants.
There was no rainbow above his head.
Did Baby Duck pick more veggies instead?
He did.
Baby Duck picked one head of green broccoli, one ear of blue corn and one purple eggplant.
It was way past lunchtime so mama duck and baby duck waddled home.
When mama duck and baby duck got home, baby duck must have been really sad he never found his rainbow to eat for lunch.
Actually, mama duck laid out all the vegetables baby duck gathered and said you looked all over for your rainbow and never gave up.
Since you looked in so many places, you got a red pepper, an orange carrot, a yellow squash, a head of green broccoli, an ear of blue corn and a purple eggplant.
Baby Duck made his own rainbow.
Baby Duck gave his mama a hug, so sweet, and let out a happy quack.
The end.
We heard a story.
Yes, it's true.
And I helped tell it, too.
We listened, imagined, and made some rhymes for Cocomelon Storytime.
