My dad works in B2B marketing, but I never really knew what that meant.
Then one day my dad came by my school for career day, and told everyone in my class he was a big ROAS man.
Then he just kept saying things like, The bigger the ROAS, the better.
Over and over. My friends still laugh at me to this day.
I think it means calculating a return on ad spend.
One thing's for sure.
I'll be known as the ROAS man's kid for the rest of my days.
Why couldn't you just be a fireman or a lawyer?
Why? You ruined my life, dad.

Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeartRadio.
Good morning. This is Laura.
Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast.
Today's tip is that you are more likely to get a positive response to a request that is clear.
So don't leave any doubt about what it is you are offering or asking for.
I recently heard the advice that a confused mind says no.
This seems to be a marketing catchphrase.
If you are selling something, you need to be sure your potential customer knows exactly what it is they could buy.
This makes sense. When a potential customer doesn't understand what they're being offered, the path of least resistance is to decline.
If figuring out what they're being offered would take a lot of work, or if asking follow -up questions feels awkward, it's easier to just say no thanks.
So in general in life, if you want to get to yes, you need to be clear.
For instance, if you are a freelancer pitching your services, you may think that describing your skills and saying you are open to discussing how you might help shows versatility, and perhaps it does.
But you are asking the potential client to do the work of identifying what you could do for them.
If they had the bandwidth for that, they'd probably also have the bandwidth to do the work themselves.
So pitch a particular, well -defined service with a total cost if possible.
That makes it easy to say yes.
At your workplace, if there's a project you'd like to be staffed on or a type of work you'd like to do, be direct in letting your boss know.
Don't say you think the work of the new audience task force is vital to the future of your company.
Ask if you could be named to the task force.
Explain what you'd bring to the group.
Then your boss has something to say yes to.
Or says no, but at least she knows exactly what you want, and she is more likely to try to figure out something similar for you soon.
People are busy. They are often in their own worlds.
So when there is something you want another person to say yes to, don't be vague.
Don't make them read between the lines or figure out how to give you what you want.
A confused mind says no.
Instead, be clear and specific, and you are more likely to get to a yes.
In the meantime, this is Laura.
