Hello friends, welcome back to another episode of Voice Hugs.
Today we have another solo episode and this is Ro.
Viv and I wanted to do something a little different this season to try out different formats and the solo episode seems like something that has resonated a lot with you guys, which makes us really excited, because we both really enjoy recording these.
We've been kind of treating these as little voicemail updates and they're more stream conscious they're not scripted it's just us kind of talking and thinking out loud so anyway the thought that has been front of mind for me is just this overall feeling of being behind in life I think because it's something that I kind of went through when I turned 30 and it's something that I don't know I think I just recently came out the other side I went to a friend's birthday party over the weekend and I sat next to a girl who I just met who's talking about how she feels really behind in life and she doesn't
know she's in like necessarily depressive state or she's going through like another quarter life mid -life crisis trying to figure out her path and she's like you know this is something that already went through in my early 20s why am I going through it again I don't know if I like being here I just think this is a very it's a very human feeling especially for us to be feeling at this point in our lives when many things are happening around us from all different aspects and so many of our friends are either getting married, having babies, getting houses, whatever...
it's so easy to feel like we're falling behind.
And now that I have announced the fact that I'm pregnant, if I'm breathy, if my mind skips and therefore my sentences and my thoughts skip, or if they're not as congruent this is why and I think before I'd be really hard on myself to be like oh my god you sound so silly that didn't make sense let's cut and redo again um you know it's fine I'm just gonna accept life as it is and I think that's one huge blessing that I've learned from being pregnant knowing that the path that I'm going down is to eventually become a mom and this journey will just never end just accepting that i'm not perfect and it's
okay and things will happen and things will get messy and I will get messy when I eat food now it gets everywhere and usually that would bug me so much and I'd be so mad at myself and i'm like you know whatever it's fine it's not a big deal we'll just pick it up we'll just clean it up so this is the mentality that I have adopted one of many that we'll also like briefly touch on because I just think all of these things kind of go hand in hand we're on this journey and it's very easy to long for things and to want things and to feel less than or feel any type of way for not having those things But in due
time the best things will happen to us and I feel like I'm just rambling so before we dive into the rest of the episode Viv and I usually say this at the end but you know, I think it's worth saying in the beginning just because I don't know we both have this weird thing where it's so hard for us to ask for help if you enjoyed voice hugs over the years or just today or for the past few months it will mean so so so much to us if you can leave us a review on Spotify, Apple or wherever you listen to podcasts or you can subscribe to our YouTube channel We also have an Instagram where we're posting
a little more consistently than last season at voice hugs podcast and at any point if you have any questions if you need any advice if you have any feedback comments concerns anything You can find us at hello at voice hugs podcast com You can also DM us on Instagram and now you can even leave comments on Our YouTube videos as well as on Spotify, so there's many ways we can get in touch and we do read everything So thank you to everyone who has shared reviews and left comments it really does mean the world to us and this really helps us spread the news for the podcast to be able to reach more people
around the world and for Viv and I this little project that is voice hugs truly is a labor of love We are pouring a lot of our our heart to and our own capital into making this podcast happen and so anything you can do to help us spread the word would help a lot.
And okay. On to the episode.

I think a good place to start would be would be end of 20s yeah i think 29 is always an interesting year there's like this Chinese saying that like whenever you turn from like 9 to 10, 19 to 20, 29 to 30, etc etc as you get older in age I mean, I've only heard my family use this in terms of older grandparents is to kind of overcome the ninth year is like a very big thing and it's kind of like a life -and -death thing for example, when you turn from 79 to 80 if you can do that, then life will be smooth sailing for a little bit longer so anyway, that's for more like traditional Chinese culture but I
also feel like when you just think of turning from 9 to 10 from like single digit to double digit or like from 19 to 20 where you're just like turning a new decade it's such a beautiful, exciting but also daunting time every year we have our birthday yes but like just the the nine to a zero it's just I don't know there's just something so so much more serious about it so anyway I think especially for women who are in their late 20s, about to turn 30 it's inevitable it's inevitable to start thinking about where you are in life whether you have a partner or not whether you're married or not whether
you have kids or not and how you kind of stack up to the imaginary timeline you may or may not have had in your head and I remember when I turned 29 it was this big thing of yeah well like I don't have any of those things yeah I don't have a I don't have I'm not married yet I don't have kids and there's just all these things that I don't have so fast forward a few years I moved back to the West Coast. I Move in with my significant other we are living our life and I'm feeling I Don't know.
I'm feeling many things and Not the happiest I'm feeling off.
I'm feeling a little be polarized I'm feeling I may or may not have lost my sense of direction in some way shape or form and This lasts for almost a whole year From when I moved back from New York, and I think it's it's definitely normal I went from hustle hustle hustle go go go always stress always stress always stress to oh Hey, I have a little bit more time to reflect to think to recalibrate and reconnect with myself to see is this how I want to continually living my life if not what do I want to do would that look like and this whole time there's just this looming feeling that I don't know
that like I knew I needed time and space to go through whatever I was going through but at the same time because I'm human a part of me is like judging myself for going through it's like you've been through this before you spend most of your early 20s going through it and you technically figured it out so you should have it figured out now for the rest of your life or it's like why are we reverting back to this why are we back at the drawing board i feel like we've moved so far beyond it so anyway it's just yeah this human experience is so interesting where we judge ourselves while we simultaneously
know this is something that'll be good for us but in that moment it's hard to kind of differentiate these thoughts or it's just so much easier to be negative you know what I mean?
It's just so much easier to judge ourselves than it is to like be nice and give compassion and grace to ourselves now that we fast forward even more to the present moment where I'm in my third trimester we have a house that's undergoing light renovations.
We're just redoing one bathroom.
And haven't talked about this on YouTube or like even shared about on Instagram.
The pod... the pod hears it first. So yes, we're doing light renovations on just one bathroom initially we had planned to do like a whole kitchen reno and then yeah no like it just with a timeline with a baby like it just doesn't make sense.
We want to make sure that we can move in and have a bit of time before the baby comes out to really get settled and to properly nest all these things, all of a sudden just happened seemingly all at once James and I were talking a few days ago and we're like yeah we really sped ran through this year of doing so many things that we wanted to do that most people spend like a few years on but we're just like, we're just gonna check all the boxes we're ready, let's go like we have no time to waste But now that I am where I am now, looking back on the past year that I did spend in my cocoon era in like
my slow era, I really do believe that that time is so, so, so needed for me to get to where I am now and for me to continue on and continue being...
like to continue growing into the person that I want to be especially now with the kid it's like growing into the mom that i want to be and it's just such an interesting thought and interesting concept that you just..
you really never know.
Well you kind of.. like when you're going through something, you kind of know you're going through something and that hopefully you'll learn something from it but you never really know what that lesson is going to be until you get to the other side and I feel like the lesson for me this time around is truly trusting myself truly trusting the universe truly trusting the plan that I have been given and the goal for me really is to just walk this path well and what that meant is for this season is that I had to learn how to slow down And I had to learn how to not have stress and anxiety and being
overwhelmed as my baseline which is the case when I lived in New York and which is the case for so, so, so many of us.
Especially if you live in like a bustling, crazy city or if you're just surrounded by such high achieving people who I absolutely, absolutely love.
But at the same time it's like, you know, if, if I want to start a family, if I want to be a mother if i want to be a calm mother if i want to grow my baby in a calm environment then i need to learn what it means to be to have calm be my baseline and i think that was what this past since moving back has really taught me that once again things happen when they're meant to and that I am exactly where I need to be trust the universe, trust God, trust whichever higher power you believe in that they have your best interest at heart and that all you have to do is to walk your path well to do what you
know are the things that you need to do to help you stay grounded and have faith that everything will work out I feel like on this kind of other side is it's just crazy I mean it's not really crazy but like to me now that I think back, it's like I feel like I've changed so much as a person in terms of my priorities already just from like the few months of being pregnant actually it's more than a few months like more than half a year of being pregnant it's like the things that I used to care about I don't care about anymore The things that I used to value, some obviously I still do, right?
The good things, the spiritual things, whatever, but the things that I used to value as reflection of my self -worth, or the fact that I need to work so hard, or comparing myself to other people, just becoming pregnant has helped calm all these thoughts so much. and it's...
I don't know, like I don't...
I like had no... I had zero expectations coming into this journey.
I like obviously knew my life would change and I would change and everything would change but the direction that everything's changed to is beyond my wildest imagination.
I have very pleasantly surprised myself with how much chiller and how much calmer I have gotten.
I don't I'm not really sure what vibes you guys get from watching my videos I think I tried to sound calmer and more collected than I actually am in real life.
It's just it I can be a lot sometimes to myself too, but also like James to you it is what it is, and I'm just so proud of myself for how not hormonal I've been in terms of like my emotions and the fact that you know like probably it's because of this like over arching desire to be a good home and to be a good not carrier but just like a good palace temple for a baby as babies growing now that I am here now that priorities have shifted so much and that everything's become so clear and just to like talk a little bit about priorities obviously things like work still are pretty friend of mine it's
something that I will probably continue doing until it doesn't make sense but at the same time the things that used to drive me the things that I used to be attached to like I'm not going to sit here and be like numbers never affected me numbers definitely have affected me and still affect me till this day in terms of like engagement how many views uh video would get how many views a podcast would get right it used to affect me a lot more and i think now where i'm In this mind space it's so much easier to cut out the noise and trim the fat and just focus on what's most important and now it's like
okay if I'm creating something that is truly adding value to this world and it's helping a Handful of people doesn't need to be millions and millions and millions of people That's good enough to me and I'm okay with it.
I'm so have my social life things like that I feel like I've already been pretty good with you know feeling okay with being home all the time but yeah I think especially during pregnancy it's like..
I'm.. it's like even more of an excuse to stay home so I'm actually very very excited to be in like a full -on nesting mode and nesting season but at the same time something very interesting that happened is that because you would hear friends say this and because you know people talk about this online all the time I have found myself, especially in second trimester and now like in the beginning of the third trimester, I find myself wanting to go out more than I ever have in my life What I mean going out it's not like, you know, hitting up the clubs I haven't done that in a really really long time
Going out just like going to a coffee shop, you know, like even if it's working, reading, journaling there, trying new places, doing things that I know that would be a lot harder once the kid comes, doing that with James, doing that with friends, and just spending as much time as we can as a couple before we will no longer be just the two of us I don't know like it was just a very natural thing I didn't have to think too much about it, I wasn't stressing over it I wasn't thinking about it for a long time I just kind of woke up one day I think because I was like so tired during first trimester
that by the second I was like oh I feel good oh yeah we should go out and make the best use of this before I don't feel good again and thankfully overall pregnancy has been very smooth now that I'm in third though I'm starting to realize and understand that yeah it's just in third trimester you just get you're just getting bigger and bigger by the hour quite literally um your belly is getting bigger and bigger and it's just not as comfortable to just be out and about that was an interesting change that I saw in myself and I think it's it's like this accumulation of so many things, right?
like of all the work that I've done previously of being able to be in tune enough with myself to know that these are the things that I need and these are the things that I don't need and then now moving into something, and stepping into something like motherhood I really do believe that pregnancy, giving birth, becoming a mom it's a lot of...
it's like, it's just what we...
I'm burping but it's just what we've been talking about on voice hugs since the beginning and what I've been talking about on my YouTube channel since the beginning of the better we are and the more we are attuned with ourselves it's not like the easier life will be but just the more that we're attuned with ourselves the more the world will show up for us in the ways that we need very vague, very abstract but I really believe that is the case and I know for some of you pregnancy and motherhood is so far away and it is maybe so irrelevant maybe it's something you never want or are thinking about but I
think regardless of its motherhood it's just it's just a big change and I think big changes in all of our lives are very normal and they can always serve as like a little checkpoint of hey this is how far you've come here is what's ahead, how are we doing, how are you feeling?
It's a great place to just sit with ourselves and remind ourselves of all the amazing things we've done so far and all the amazing things we will do in the coming weeks, months, years and that we truly are on this beautiful journey of life together whether you have baby potatoes, whether you don't have baby potatoes, whether you are the baby potato because the longest time I was my own baby potato, that I was babying and now that I have a real baby potato, it's time to start caring for it's time to start caring for someone else other than myself and it's it's a very beautiful thing I hope you're
all doing great and if you're not feeling the best, I promise you that, as Viv said, the sun will come up tomorrow, and if not tomorrow, the day after!
And if not the day after the day after.
I mean, to be fair, the sun comes up every single day, but sometimes it's cloudy, sometimes we don't see it, sometimes we forget to look outside the window, so just a little reminder for us to look outside the window and to remember that the sun comes up every single day, even if we don't see it.
And with that, sending you all the biggest voice hugs!
And we will see you next week!
