Hello my friends and welcome back to the English with Neil Learn English podcast.
How's everyone doing today?
Today I'd like to talk about the lost art of hard work.
I don't know about you, but something that I've been noticing for the past few years is that A lot of companies, a lot of big businesses, are really capitalizing on this idea of convenience.
For example, the health and fitness industry.
They say, take this pill and lose weight instantly.
It's like whatever happened to just exercising and eating healthy foods?
No, no, no.
That's the old way.
The new way is to take this pill.
Take this pill and you don't have to work hard anymore.
Right?
Or what about, you know, learning a new language?
No, buy my program.
You know, 30 minute English, you know, be fluent in in six months.
I actually saw an advertisement on that on that said learn.
It said be fluent in English in six months.
I actually saw an advertisement online couple of days ago and I was completely disgusted, completely disgusted.
Or now they have this new technology called chat gpt, where it's basically this robot that you can tell to do anything and it'll do anything for you.
It'll do your homework for you, it'll write books for you, it'll it'll pretty much do anything for you.
And i'm thinking what Is the purpose?
Of all of this convenience.
I feel like all of this technology.
All of this.
Fast.
Instant.
Stuff is like dehumanizing us.
Kind of sickens me a little bit.
Because I'm thinking like what happened to the hard work?
What happened to just being patient?
You know what happened to the discipline?
What happened to persistence?
I feel like these are like lost principles.
I feel like the people who are disciplined.
The people who who show up and work hard every day.
I feel like these are going to be like just like gyms.
These people are going to be gems, because it's going to be something that you just don't see now or you or you won't see in the future, because everybody wants things fast.
I read this blog article a while back and it talked about how the brain, the human brain is lazy.
The human brain is always trying to find ways to save energy.
This is a fact.
This is a scientific fact that the brain is lazy and the brain is always looking for ways to save energy.
And so think about it.
If you had the option to Make your own food or order food.
Which one would you choose?
Most people would choose the easy way to order food.
Right?
I mean, this is just a fact.
If you had to choose between getting something now instantly, or waiting a little bit, which one would you choose?
Most people would want the thing now.
Most people want to take the easy way.
And I just found in my personal experience that the easy way, the fast way, is not always the best way, because you learn nothing by getting something fast.
You learn nothing.
By getting something without working for it, You get nothing from it.
So I just want to encourage you, If you're listening, To do the hard stuff.
The people who that?
The people that Are going to do the hard stuff, These are going to be the new leaders, I feel like.
And this is just my opinion.
I'm just kind of rambling right now.
But I just want people to go back to doing the hard stuff.
Stop looking for the easy way out.
Stop trying to get things quick.
Because it doesn't help you in the long run.
It absolutely does nothing for you in the long run to get something fast without working for it.
So those are just my thoughts.
This is just me rambling, but I feel like hard work has become a lost art.
I believe that is the real success.
That person will be the real successor in life.
So let me know what you think.
All right, my friends, that is it for today's episode.
