Hello my friends and welcome back to the English with Neil Learn English Podcast.
Everyone, there once lived a wise man by the name of Bruce Lee.
We all know Bruce Lee. as the martial arts master, as the actor, as the filmmaker.
But Bruce Lee was much more than that.
Bruce Lee was also a philosopher.
He had these great ideas about life.
And he shared these ideas through his movies.
And one quote that Bruce Lee is famous for is, don't think, feel.
He says this to one of his students as his student is practicing his kicks.
Bruce Lee says kick me.
The student tries to kick Bruce Lee and it wasn't a good kick.
So Bruce Lee says, try to kick me again.
The student tries to kick Bruce Lee again.
And he said, no, that wasn't a good kick.
He tells his student, don't think, feel.
Feel.
What he's really trying to tell his student in this moment is don't overthink things.
Sometimes you have to feel it.
And I think that's so true because we can apply this concept to everyday life.
We can apply this concept to English.
So let's start there.
How can we apply this quote to English?
Don't think.
Feel.
I remember when I was first learning how to speak Japanese and I would listen to native speakers and I would have conversations with native speakers and I was trying to understand every single word and I was translating in my head.
And I was getting lost.
But the more I learned Japanese, the more I learned that you don't have to understand every single word that someone's saying.
A lot of the times, conversation is really non-verbal.
You can really understand what people are saying through their body movements, through their facial expressions.
And so when you're having a conversation, it's not about Understanding every single word, It's a feeling, It's about the connection That you're having with the other person.
So that's how we can apply this to English Don't worry about being perfect, Just try to make a connection, And we're using this quote all the time.
Don't think, feel.
When I'm deciding what to wear in the morning, I never overthink it.
I never think okay, I want my shirt to match my socks and i want my jacket to match my shoes and i want this to match that.
For me, it's just a feeling.
When i wake up, i say okay, i feel like wearing black jeans and My black and yellow shoes, and maybe a green jacket.
It's just a feeling.
We can also use this when we're making a big decision.
You know life is so unpredictable we never know what's going to happen next.
Sometimes it's hard to make a big decision.
And sometimes you just have to feel it.
When you're making an important decision, sometimes it's hard to think about all of the options.
Sometimes it's just a feeling.
It's just like a relationship, right?
When you're dating someone or when you think you've found the perfect person, you don't really think too much, right?
It's more of just a feeling.
You say, wow, this person makes me happy.
I feel good when I'm with him.
So I think I want to further their relationship.
It's a feeling.
So I think Bruce Lee was right.
Sometimes we don't have to think so much.
Sometimes we should just feel.
Alright my friends, that is it for today's episode.
