Hello my friends and welcome back to the English with Neil Learn English podcast.
How's everyone doing today?
I ran across a very, very interesting article a couple of days ago.
And it talked about how Instagram is causing people to have depression.
And I read the entire article and I was just amazed by how true it was.
This article was.
Instagram has been around for a long time.
I don't really remember when Instagram started.
But Instagram completely changed the game for social media.
We have YouTube it's a video sharing platform.
And we have Facebook, which is mainly for family and friends.
But then came instagram, or just give you.
It, just gives you this big entire catalog of the world and it's mainly pictures.
I mean, i know you can watch videos on on instagram now, but it's mostly a photo sharing application and I think this is great for people who you know, who are photographers or who do art.
But Instagram now is really used by a lot of influencers to sell products and to promote things and to show people a certain lifestyle.
And I understand that.
The problem is A lot of these photos that people are sharing.
They're just portraying this fake lifestyle.
You see women in these beautiful clothes and men in suits and supermodels and people with flashy cars.
It's just one big lie.
That's what it is.
It's one big lie.
I watched a documentary on this a while back.
It was some Instagram influencer and somebody was showing the behind the scenes of his lifestyle and a lot of it was just really fake.
You know, a lot of the cars he was showing were all rented.
He would take vacations but He would really only take these vacations so he can take photos for Instagram, so he can portray this fake lifestyle, so he can sell his clothing products.
And I thought man, it's so sad now the times that we're living in, that people have to go through these lengths to be fake.
And I thought, where is the self-love?
Why can't we just show our real selves?
Why can't we just be ourselves online and offline?
Why do we have to give people this false impression of us?
I think that's one of the downfalls of society right now.
There's so much fake on the internet and it's hard to tell what's fake and what's real.
A lot of the stuff you can tell.
But especially for young people, they don't know the difference.
So, I'm just making this podcast today to say love yourself.
Don't ever feel like you need to compete with people.
Don't ever feel like you're in competition with somebody.
Because we're all on our own journeys.
So just love your own journey.
Just love yourself.
And just be you.
Alright everyone.
That's it for today's episode.
Thank you for tuning in to the English with Neil podcast.
I look forward to speaking with you in the next one.
Take care, everyone, and talk to you soon.
Peace.
