But it cannot be a general appreciation, because every day you are working with people who are stretched too thin under pressure and rarely recognized even among senior leaders.
And while most leaders give feedback on performance, The ones who rise fastest know how to give appreciation for effort, especially a strong effort.
So here's today's tiny high impact leadership habit.
When someone helps you, this is what you say, five words, what I appreciate about you.
And then you need to make the second part of that sentence very specific.
So here are some examples.
What I appreciate about you is how you connect the dots between strategy and execution.
What I appreciate about you is that you ask the question that everybody is thinking but is afraid to say.
What I appreciate you is how calm you stay under pressure.
That signals so much confidence to the team.
What I appreciate about you is the way you give feedback.
It's direct and yet respectful and focused.
And it's just, I'm really impressed.
Those are the kinds of what I appreciate about you that builds loyalty.
Why?
Because people feel seen. not judged.
Relationships deepen without effort.
People feel valued and that's going to raise the performance.
That's when people give that discretionary effort is when they feel valued, right?
This simple.
What I appreciate about you is It's a simple phrase that can turn you into the kind of leader that people want to support, to collaborate with and go that extra mile for, because appreciation is not being soft or weak.
It's strategic influence.
Recognition is charisma and action.
So go appreciate some people today.
