Today is day one.
So let's unwrap our first gift.
On the first day of Christmas, Laura Camacho gave to me.
I think I'll skip the singing part.
All right.
So today's gift is small, but it instantly elevates how you are perceived in conversations, meetings and holiday gatherings or any kind of gathering.
And it's counterintuitive, and it has to do with...
What to do with your phone, okay?
So let's be honest, as we always are, right?
We all have really good reasons to keep the phone close by.
You may have a sick child.
You may have a traveling spouse.
Urgent project updates.
So we mostly do the polite thing, right?
And what is that?
That is to put it face down on the table.
I mean, that was me too.
Except for the dinner table at home has always been phone free.
But of course, in all these business meetings, always have the phone face down on the table.
And part of that is to keep track of the time.
But here's the hidden problem.
Even face down, your phone is a silent announcement that something more important might appear.
It's like you have my attention for now.
And that kills executive presence because people can feel it.
Top leaders value your attention even more than your insights, which is saying a lot, because your attention tells them whether they can trust you.
So when you take the phone completely off the table, here is what that is going to communicate.
That you're focused, that you're confident, that you're someone worth investing in, that you're playing the long game in leadership, not just some kind of quick distraction.
You don't have to say anything.
You just signal that you have nothing to hide and nothing to chase.
And that becomes so magnetic, folks, because that is so rare.
So your takeaway for today on the first day of Christmas, Merry Christmas.
True presence is undivided attention and attention builds trust faster than talent.
Have a blessed, fantastic day.
And tomorrow we'll unwrap another simple behavior you can use at dinner tables, office parties, team meetings or your next big presentation.
