Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions. you and me every day.
Come on, let's master English. Hello everybody, welcome back to Daily Easy.
The English Expression. Today's podcast is brought to you by DDM.
And today's expression is... Those poor children.
Those poor children. Those P-O-O-R, poor children.
All right, so poor actually has a couple of meanings One, of course, means to not have much money, to have little money. to maybe not have a house, poor, to be poor, to have no money.
So of course you are listening to this podcast. that means you have a computer or an internet connection you're very lucky There are many people in this world who do not have a computer, who do not have an internet connection.
They might not even have a very nice house.
They might not have enough to eat. Those people we could call poor people.
Poor his relative, Bill Gates. Oh, he's super rich compared to Bill Gates.
I'm poor. Everybody's poor compared to Bill Gates.
So poor has that meaning. But poor has another meaning.
Helpless. If someone is poor, they're helpless. they could easily become a victim. of violence or danger, sickness.
Somebody who is poor. is helpless. So poor children could have a double meaning.
It could mean that they don't have any money and that they could become victims.
Check out the dialogue. Oh, those poor children.
Why do wars mostly affect poor people? I hate wars.
We need to tell our leaders no more war.
We have to. Okay, so I used poor twice with both meanings.
Those poor children. Those... Helpless children.
Those children in a very terrible situation. those children who are victims of war.
And then the next sentence, why do wars, W-A-R-S, blah.
Why do wars mostly affect poor people? that seems to be true many wars seem to affect people who already have very difficult living conditions.
Why do those people have to suffer through wars?
And then the children... The children are helpless victims.
They're poor too. My cat is meowing. She's not poor.
She has plenty of food. So the word poor is a serious word.
It's not really... a word that you can make jokes with.
But I guess it's possible. But anyway, yeah, war –
What a waste. Unbelievable waste. Yes, of course, we have differences.
Maybe we don't really like each other but do we have to kill each other?
I don't know. I don't know. Anyway, poor, P-O-O-R.
It's a very important word. You'll see it a lot in the news and we should do something to help especially to help poor children.
Oh, those poor children. Why do wars mostly affect poor people?
I hate wars. We need to tell our leaders no more war.
We have to. Oh, those poor children. Why do wars mostly affect poor people?
I hate wars. We need to tell our leaders no more war.
We have to. Okay, so today's expression was a little bit serious.
Tomorrow... I'll have a funnier expression.
