Good morning and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Tori.
Today is Tuesday, November 4th, 2025.
And we begin with American voters headed to the polls.
Today is election day, not for the presidency, but for other key races like governor, as well as state and local issues influencing education, road maintenance and public safety.
Especially in the spotlight, the top jobs in New Jersey, Virginia and New York City, along with Prop 50 in California, which would let the state legislature redraw the state map for voting purposes.
Today's elections are seen as an early indicator of next year's more consequential midterm contests, when voters again determine control of Congress and, with it, the fate of President Trump's agenda for his last two years in office.
It's a tie that no one is celebrating.
Today marks day 35 of the US government shutdown, matching the longest in American history, which was set from December 2018 to January of 2019, during President Trump's first term.
Should it extend into tomorrow, the nation will be in unprecedented shutdown territory.
Many federal workers remain unpaid and face mounting stress as bills become due.
At least some SNAP food assistance benefits will be paid from an emergency fund.
But air travel disruptions are mounting.
Yesterday, more than 2,500 U.S. flights were delayed and at least 68 were canceled.
Never-before-seen treasures of King Tut are in hiding no more.
After two decades and a billion dollars, the Grand Egyptian Museum in Cairo opened its doors over the weekend.
It showcases 50000 artifacts, including all the valuables from the boy king's tomb, many of which are being displayed for the first time ever.
The museum is located right next to the Great Pyramids and is expected to attract about 5 million visitors a year.
Notably, there are some key items from Egypt's cultural history that are missing however, such as the Rosetta Stone, which is in London, and the bust of Nefertiti, which is in Berlin.
Egypt's government has long called for the return of prominent artifacts taken by other countries through wars and other social upheavals, but so far without success.
Epic Game 7 of the World Series also had an epic audience.
According to early numbers from Nielsen, the Los Angeles Dodgers' extra inning victory over the Toronto Blue Jays Saturday night was the most-watched fall classic in eight years.
An average of 26 million viewers tuned into Fox, with viewership peaking at 315 million between 1130 and 1145 pm.
Halloween's weekend box office numbers offered plenty for movie executives to be scared about.
Revenues were just $43 million across the U.S.
The dismal performance was attributed to Halloween falling on Friday, the World Series Game 7 and a lack of new releases.
Overall, this October was the lowest-grossing October in 27 years.
Regretting You, a Colleen Hoover adaptation, narrowly topped the weekend with just $8 million.
To the surprise of some, The Boss is not boss at the box office.
The Bruce Springsteen biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere opened in fourth place last weekend with just 88 million in ticket sales and did even less than 4 million this weekend.
Still to come, this year's Word of the Year isn't even a word.
But first, today's Kid News quiz.

In today's Kid News Kicker.
We probably don't have to tell you what dictionarycom's word of the year is.
You'll know, especially after we give you this hint, this word of the year isn't even a word, but two numbers.
We've covered six seven, plenty here on Kid News and maybe, just maybe, this will be the last time.
Steve Johnson with the Dictionary Media Group at IXL Learning said in a news release It's part inside joke, part social signal and part performance.
It's one of the first words of the year that works as a burst of energy that spreads and connects people, long before anyone agrees on what it actually means.
Some of the words that 6-7 beat out, Gen Z stare, over tourism, and tariff.
And now it's time to shout out our terrific Kid News teachers, who no doubt would like us to skip future mentions of 6'7 Ms.
Chow and her Rice Rockets at Rice Eldridge School in Rosemead, California.
Mrs Evans and her Jaguars at John Wayland in Bridgewater, Virginia.
Mrs Johnson and her Bulldogs at Aquin Catholic Academy in Freeport, Illinois.
And Ms
Mitchell and her Eagles at Chester County Junior High in Henderson, Tennessee.
Thanks for listening.
