Good morning and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Kim.
Today is Friday, October 31st, 2025.
Happy Halloween.
And we begin with clock change drama in Washington coming to a not so dramatic conclusion.
This week, lawmakers once again tried but failed to make daylight saving time permanent.
So the twice a year switch is staying put for now.
A cross party coalition of lawmakers has been trying for years to lock the clock on daylight saving time, which would mean more sun in the evening hours with less in the morning.
And that's the rub for Arkansas Senator Rick Cotton, who argued that late sunrises in the dead of winter could be harmful for kids heading to school in the dark.
So, once again, on Sunday at 2 am, most of the US will fall back to standard time, turning the clocks back one hour, allowing many of us to get an extra hour of sleep.
According to a new APNORC poll out, only 12 of US adults like the current flip-flop system, 47 oppose it and 40 don't care one way or another.
New ripple effects are being felt as the ongoing federal government shutdown heads into the weekend.
Emergency food assistance for 42 million Americans is scheduled to run out tomorrow.
Some states are dipping into their own wallets to keep food benefits flowing, while Washington stays stuck.
Governors in more than two dozen states say they'll use emergency funds so families don't lose their November benefits.
Also, airport workers like TSA officers and air traffic controllers, are now reporting to duty without pay after missing their first paycheck this week.
Agencies warn that staffing strain could mean slower security lines and more flight delays.
As Jamaica picks up the pieces after Hurricane Melissa's devastation, there's at least one bright spot on the horizon the island's surprise Olympic skiing.
Push for 2026.
Eighteen-year-old triplets, Helena Henia and Henry Rivers IV, whose parents are both ski coaches, have been racing since childhood and now spend six days a week training to qualify in alpine skiing at next year's Milano Cortina Winter Games.
No Jamaican has ever meddled in Olympic alpine, but the siblings told Today Show hosts that pushing one another makes them faster and braver.
Your Happy Meal may cost more or less now that the penny is on its way out.
Some McDonald's locations have implemented new rules for cash paying customers who don't have exact change.
Transactions ending in one or two cents will round down to zero, saving the customer a couple of pennies.
The same goes for those ending in six or seven cents, which will round down to five.
However, customers with bills ending in three four, eight or nine cents will have to dig a little deeper and pay a penny more.
The new policy won't affect those paying with credit cards or payment apps.
Will baseball's October Classic slide into November this year?
That all depends on whether the Blue Jays can win tonight's Game 6 of the World Series at home in Toronto.
After taking two out of three games in Los Angeles, they need just one more victory to nab their team's first championship since 1993.
On Wednesday, Toronto's 22-year-old rookie pitcher, Trey Savage, helped his team to victory by striking out 12 hitters in seven innings, breaking a record set back in 1949 by the Brooklyn Dodgers' Don Newcomb.
Tonight's game begins at 8 p.m.
Eastern, 5 p.m.
Pacific.

In today's Kid News Kicker, candy all month long?
Every family has different rules about how much of your Halloween stash you get to keep and eat.
One North Carolina mom is betting her kids might be tired of candy by the time trick-or-treating rolls around.
Sandy Padolfo has gone viral on TikTok for her October candy plan.
She puts a Halloween candy bowl out on October 1st and lets her kids graze all month long.
She has just two rules.
Toss your wrappers and listen to your belly.
She says growing up around strict candy limits made treats feel too special, so she wants to be more chill about sweets.
After the first wave of excitement wears off, they usually have one to three pieces a day and forget the bowl is even there.
Now she's even thinking about trying a year-round bowl.
Thanks again to Shishi Ant Lon Lon, Uncle and Cousin Matthew for sponsoring today's quiz.
So they could shout out Aiden Lay of Cupertino California, for his big day on Sunday.
Aiden, our entire team hopes it's your best birthday yet.
