Good morning and welcome to KID News. I'm Kim.
Today is Thursday, August 14th, 2025. And we begin with billions of gallons of water surging toward Alaska's capital.
This massive glacial outburst started in a lake that runs up against the western part of Juneau. and acts, according to CNN, like a giant bucket filling up with rain, snow and melting ice. and eventually gets so full that water surges into the Mendenhall River.
But that river rose to above 16 feet yesterday, according to the National Weather Service. topping a record set last year when flooding there damaged almost 300 homes.
More than a thousand people were evacuated Tuesday night as sections of roads, trails and areas near the river became submerged.
But so far, temporary barriers installed to protect riverfront neighborhoods appear to be holding pretty well.
Meteorologists blame our warming climate for the outburst, which is the third to hit the basin in three years.
On YouTube and you're not 18, AI is coming for you.
The video sharing site began testing a new system yesterday that relies on artificial intelligence to determine someone's age based on the videos they're watching, not considered the age real or fake that someone may have entered when they signed up.
If a user gets flagged as a minor, the usual guardrails kick in, like limited access to some videos, as well as take a break and bedtime reminders.
What if AI makes a mistake and the user is actually over 18?
They'll have to prove it with an ID. The testing will impact only a small portion of YouTube's audience in the U.S., but will be expanded if successful.

Madden NFL 26. In today's Kid News Kicker, a miniature pig who thinks he's a dog has finally found a forever home.
Wellington, a 90-pound stray, arrived at a Maryland animal shelter in June, acting way more like a pup than a pig.
Animal Services official Amber Guthrie says that he would sit for a treat, come when called, wag his tail and sleep in bedding and blankets rather than straw or hay.
According to the Washington Post, it was tough to find Welly a home because he prefers to be indoors around people.
He didn't last at a local rescue farm as he was chased by a cow and bitten on his booty by another pig and busted a fence trying to escape.
Through social media, a match was finally made.
Mindy Gallagher lives on a small farm in Pennsylvania with six pigs, four dogs, three goats, and numerous chickens. and says she's thrilled Wellington really just wants to be around us.
She created his own little resort with twinkly lights pig posters, toys, a radio, a fan, and a giant bed and says he's acclimating terrifically. mostly sunbathing and snacking on watermelon and Cheerios.
