Good morning and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Kevin. Today is Friday, May 30th, 2025.
And we begin with Tiger Woods.
Not the only Woods making golf headlines.
His 16 -year -old son Charlie just won his first American Junior Golf Association tournament.
The same contest Tiger won eight times when he was a teen.
The event in Bowling Green, Florida started off rough, But the high school junior didn't let that stand in his way.
Charlie came from behind to finish strong, beating out a field of more than 70 players.
This was just his fifth AGGA tournament.
And before this week, he hadn't finished above 25th place.
Tournament organizers recognize Charlie's win with a post on X that read, welcome to the winners circle, Charlie.
Elon Musk is bowing out of his short lived role in government.
The billionaire tech mogul helped the Trump administration launch DOGE, short for the Department of Government Efficiency, a group he helped create to cut wasteful government spending that led to thousands of workers losing their jobs.
Musk had big goals.
He wanted to save $2 trillion, but only reached a fraction of that before running into political roadblocks.
He recently criticized a new massive spending bill that passed through the House saying it undermines the work he was doing.
Now, he says he's stepping away from politics to refocus on his companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. The western half of the U .S. is putting on a weather show with scorching heat and a surprise storm in the mix.
Meteorologists say parts of California could see triple -digit highs today, along with dry air that will raise the fire danger.
The unseasonable heat is forecasted to last through Sunday.
In the meantime, a tropical storm named Alvin is spinning in the Pacific, and while not expected to make landfall could generate thunderstorms over Texas and New Mexico.
Alvin is the first named storm of the Pacific Hurricane season, recording 40 mile per hour winds as of yesterday.
A baby bear in California has some unusual babysitters.
Humans dressed head to toe in bear costumes.
The orphaned cub was found alone and underweight in Los Padres National Forest, and now lives at the San Diego Humane Society's Mona Wildlife Centre, after rescuers tried unsuccessfully to reunite him with his family.
To prevent him from getting too comfortable with people, his caretakers wear furry suits, bear masks, and even rub themselves with bear -scented hay.
The cub, who also has a giant teddy bear in his pen, is learning wild bear skills, like foraging for worms and insects.
If all goes well, he'll be ready to return to the wild next year.
A new kind of museum is opening in London, and looks a lot like a warehouse store.
Set in a nearly thousand foot long building, the Victoria and Albert Museum's East Storehouse will let visitors explore much of its vast collection of objects in open shelving not behind glass.
The space will house over 250 ,000 items including puppets, motorcycles, furniture, and even 18th -century hunting swords.
While touching objects on the shelves is prohibited, visitors can request to see the items up close, kind of like picking books from a library at the museum's on -site research center.
The best part? It's free.
And after 10 years in the making, it opens to the public tomorrow.
Still to come, a quirky ride making waves in one U .S. city, but first, the Rosenreads of Baltimore, Maryland would like to wish Graham a happy seventh birthday tomorrow.
And today is his last day of school.
Graham, your mom, dad, and Naomi tell us you love soccer, tennis, basketball, and rock climbing, are a great friend, student, brother, and son and they're so proud of you.
Happy birthday, a day early, Graham.
Now today's kid news quiz.
Who's following in Tiger Woods golf shoes with a big junior win?
His son, Charlie Woods.
Why did Elon Musk say he's stepping away from his government role to refocus on his companies.
Which two weather extremes are hitting the West Coast this weekend, a heat wave and a tropical storm?
Why are rescuers wearing bear costumes around a cub so he doesn't get used to humans?
In today's kid news kicker, a streetcar shaped like a boat is turning heads in the city by the bay.
Originally built in the 1930s for a seaside town in England, San Francisco's Boat Tram is open air, green and cream, and looks like a ship.
It's just one of a handful of vintage trams rolling along the waterfront on Fridays and Saturdays this summer, offering breezy views of the bay.
The ride is part of a summer celebration of vintage transit including historic streetcars from Melbourne, Milan, and Zurich. Thanks again to the Rosenreads of Baltimore, Maryland for sponsoring today's quiz and a big birthday and last day of school shout out to the super curious, creative, and inventive Graham.
And hello to our kid news classrooms. Ms. Tobin and her Cubs at Clay Pit Hill School in Wayland, Massachusetts.
Ms. Miller and her Falcons at Jackson School Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Ms. Crossland and her Tritons at Coronado Middle School in Coronado, California.
