Good morning, and welcome to KID News.
I'm Kim. Today is Friday, May 16, 2025.
And we begin with one man diving into shark -filled waters to show the world they're maybe not so scary after all.
55 -year -old endurance swimmer Lewis Pugh is spending 12 days swimming around Martha's Vineyard three to four hours a day in early -season shark territory.
He began his 62 -mile journey yesterday braving 47 -degree water wearing only trunks, a cap and goggles.
However, he is surrounded by a so -called Shark Shield, an electric device to keep sharks away without causing them harm.
Following his daily swim, he'll speak with the public about why sharks are important, at risk, and yes, misunderstood.
This is not Pew's first underwater rodeo.
He holds long -distance world records swimming every ocean.
This latest swim takes place where the iconic, scary summer movie Jaws was filmed.
exactly the fear he's hoping to change.
From one spine -tingling creature to another, a massive rattlesnake megadent in Colorado is buzzing with activity, and you can watch it live from the safety of your home.
Created by a team of scientists, Project Rattle Cam live -streams a rocky slope home to hundreds of snakes shedding their skins, warming themselves in the sun as they emerge from hibernation.
Some already have creative nicknames like Lasagna, who has a unique noodle -like shape when she folds herself up, and Twitchie, who does a lot of fidgeting.
The snake's exact location is not disclosed for their protection, but we put a link on our resource page.
All of the slithery activity is expected to continue through October.
Storm clouds are continuing to build across the Midwest today along with unseasonably warm temperatures.
Powerful thunderstorms are expected in parts of Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky, with strong winds, giant hail and even the potential of tornadoes.
Cities like St. Louis, Louisville and Nashville are in the path of the strongest storms, with others like Indianapolis and Cincinnati also watching the skies.
Forecasters say the storms could come in waves starting this afternoon and stretching into the night.
Some hail could grow as big as golf balls, and wind gusts might reach 75 miles per hour.
A centuries -old surprise just made history at Harvard. What was thought to be a knock -off copy of the Magna Carta from 1300 turned out to be the real thing— one of only seven originals still in existence.
The school bought it for $27 decades ago, but it's believed to be worth millions.
A British professor spotted it by chance while browsing Harvard Law School's archives, and ultraviolet and special imaging confirmed its authenticity.
The Magna Carta helped inspire the U .S Constitution and the Bill of Rights, making this rare find a big deal for law lovers and history buffs alike.
The two researchers who made the discovery are flying to Harvard next month to see it close up for the very first time.
Giant lily pads, bronze trees and even the Queen's voice might soon pop up in a London park.
Five creative designs are in the running to become the official memorial to Queen Elizabeth II, honoring her 70 years on the throne.
One idea features towering stone lily pads with a statue beneath, while another includes a bronze version of a giant oak tree meant to show her strength.
Some include peaceful gardens, flowing bridges, and recordings of her actual speeches.
The public can check them out and provide feedback until May 19th, and the winning design will be revealed next year, when the queen would have turned 100 years old.
Still to come, why a 94 -year -old billionaire says he's not ready to stay home.
But first, we have a special double shout -out, courtesy of the Marken family of Omaha, Nebraska.
They'd like to say happy 11th birthday to Tom and happy 8th birthday to Anna.

And Anna your passion to learn has made you an incredible student and gymnast. Your spirits of adventure, creativity and kindness make your Mom and Dad proud.
