Good morning and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Kim. Today is Friday, March twenty eighth, twenty twenty five, and we begin with a dreamy reason to forget about slam dunks and buzzer beaters.
Rescued brown bears from around the globe are facing off in March napness, a bracket style competition to see who can hibernate the longest. The contest is run by Four Paws, an animal welfare group with over 135 rescues across seven sanctuaries.
To win a bear must out -snooze its fellow competitors, though snack breaks and stretch sessions are allowed. According to NPR, 23 bears entered the sleepy showdown with less than half remaining.
Last year, the winner slept deep into April, winning the ultimate title sleepiest bear of the year.
As far as that other tournament -making headlines, both the men and women of college basketball are in the middle of the Sweet 16.
Remember that mix -up we mentioned the other day where a top journalist was reportedly added by accident to a secret group chat about a military mission?
Now Congress may take a closer look.
Two high -ranking lawmakers from the Senate Armed Services Committee, one Republican and one Democrat, have asked for a bipartisan investigation into how it happened and what, if any, classified information was shared.
According to the New York Times, while the Signal app is encrypted, its use is explicitly prohibited under a 2023 Defense Department memo that bans non -Department of Defense messaging systems and unclassified systems government issued or otherwise for classified national security information.
Those on the call say the info wasn't classified — critics believe otherwise.
In true media form, the scandal even has a name — Signalgate.
Scientists have made a startling discovery deep in Mongolia's Gobi Desert, a fully preserved dinosaur fossil belonging to a previously unknown species.
The nearly footlong claw suggests the creature they're calling Duonychus socked -butari had two fingers on each hand, stood nearly 10 feet tall, and weighed in at almost 600 pounds.
Cousin to the T. rex, the newly discovered dino, is part of the Therosinosaur family, which means it most likely was also covered in feathers, adding to its already odd -looking demeanor.
Researchers say the creature probably used its unusually sharp, impressive talons to grab leafy branches off trees and help with self -defense.
A sitcom joke just turned into a real restaurant and fans are eating it up.
Chili's is opening its very first location in Scranton, Pennsylvania, nearly 20 years after it became the backdrop for a famous episode of The Office.
Though many Kid News listeners weren't around when the show originally aired, we're pretty sure your parents have watched what is now one of the most streamed shows ever.
This new restaurant leans into nostalgia with colorful tile tables, murals recreated by the chain's original artist, and the return of long -lost menu items like the Awesome Blossom giant onion ring cluster.
The one struggling restaurant chain is experiencing a serious comeback thanks to TikTok videos posted by its fans.
It started with a tossed shoe, a Celine Dion song, and a dancer who missed his flight.
Professional dancer Blake McGrath filmed a spontaneous routine at his departure gate last fall, only to realize too late that he was at the wrong gate.
That 20 -second clip went viral and launched a global trend, with dancers pirouetting through terminals from New Jersey to New Zealand.
Many kids, and even non -dancers, are getting in on the fun, spinning and hopping through security lines and near -baggage claims to the delight of fellow travelers and millions of online fans.
As the Airport Dance Challenge continues to take off, McGrath is thrilled by all the joy he's spawned, but hopes everyone keeps safety in mind, especially if they're tossing their shoes.
Still to come, a kitchen mishap that nearly took a champion out of the game.
