Good morning and welcome to KidNews, I'm Tori.
Today is Tuesday, March 11th, 2025.
And we begin with a lot of groaning on Wall Street.
Stocks have been taking a beating recently, and yesterday was no exception.
The Dow Jones was down 890 points while Nasdaq suffered its steepest drop since 2022.
According to the Associated Press, it was the worst day yet in a scary stretch of massive seesaw swings due to President Trump's on - and off -again threat to tax imports from Mexico, Canada and China, and his reluctance to rule out the possibility of an economic downturn known as a recession.
Among the stocks taking the biggest gut punch, Elon Musk's Tesla.
It's down 45 % so far this year.
The task of dealing with President Trump on trade will fall to a new Canadian leader.
Mark Carney is succeeding Justin Trudeau as Canada's prime minister.
Mr. Carney has worked in global finance roles for decades but has never been elected to public office.
In the end, he won by a landslide with nearly 86 % of the vote.
A Seattle startup is developing a supersonic plane that they say will make the Concord look like a turtle.
Back in the 1970s and 80s the Concord was the fastest way to travel flying from London to New York in just three hours, today it takes about seven.
But high costs, environmental impact, and a crash in France in 2000 sent the Concorde into retirement.
Now, aerospace company Radian says its Radian I will be 11 times faster than the Concorde, circling the globe in just 95 minutes.
The aircraft, part plane, part spacecraft, will use a rocket to reach low orbit and while it will only hold a crew of five, It will haul up to £5 ,000 of freight.
So far a prototype has made only ground tests and the company says there is no firm timeline to blast off.
A number of aerospace companies are trying to renew supersonic travel with aircraft that are more environmentally friendly and less expensive.
The Buffalo Bills have rewarded NFL MVP Josh Allen with a record -setting six -year, $330 million contract with 250 million of it guaranteed.
The deal takes Allen from the 14th highest annual salary among quarterbacks to being tied for second surpassed only by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dan Prescott.
Allen became the first player in NFL history to record at least 25 touchdown passes and 10 touchdown runs with fewer than 10 interceptions in a season.
He finished with 28 touchdown passes, 12 rushing touchdowns, and 6 interceptions.
This next story gives new meaning to the word eye tooth.
Three Canadians have their vision back, thanks to their teeth.
The procedure involves doctors removing a tooth from the patient, shaving it down to a thin rectangular layer, and installing a tiny lens in the middle.
Then, they install the implant into the eye, where the lens partially restores sight.
Using material from a patient's own body reduces the risk of it being rejected.
Sometimes the operation is so successful that patients can see well enough to drive again.
The procedure only works in specific circumstances, and can't be used to restore all sight.
It depends on the reason the patient cannot see.
One of the Canadians who recently received the operation had undergone 50 surgeries prior Prior to this procedure price, the new policy will instantly boost its bottom line, because it has two to three times as many checked bags as other airlines.
Nobody likes the whir of the dentist drill, but residents of Utah may soon need to embrace it because their state is about to become the first in the nation.
Canada. How long will a trip around the world take aboard Radian Airspace's proposed space plane?
95 minutes. In today's Kid News Kicker, back in 2000, Lindsay Snyder was the last surviving relative of grandfather Harry Snyder, who with his wife, founded the burger chain in and out way back in 1948.
So it seemed to shoe in that she could get a job there just by showing up, right?
But no … Lynsey didn't want people to think she got special treatment because she was the founder's granddaughter.
So she interviewed for an entry -level job like everyone else, was hired, and started work chopping vegetables and doing the other tasks given to new employees.
Nobody but the store manager knew who she was.
Her work paid off and now at 42 she's the CEO of IN & OUT and has overseen the opening of the company's 400th store.
In homage to her family Snyder also recently oversaw the construction of a replica of the chain's very first restaurant in Baldwin Park, California.
