Good morning and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Tori. Today is Monday, February 10th, 2025.
And we begin with the Eagles making it look easy.
Philadelphia demolished the two -time defending champion Chiefs 40 to 22 in last night's Super Bowl.
So instead of entering football lore as the first team to three -peat, Kansas City was on the wrong end of one of the more lopsided games in Super Bowl history.
Plenty of star power was on hand to witness it, including Beatle Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, Blake Shelton, John Hamm, Bradley Cooper, Tina Fey, Kevin Hart, Taylor Swift and even President Trump.
As of this recording, parade plans in Philly are pending and likely weather dependent.
The last time they won was 2018 and when they did, two million fans turned out on downtown streets.
Thanks to all the celebrating, or commiserating, as many as 23 million American football fans are expected to skip work today with the case of Super Bowl flu.
That's up 40 percent over last year, according to a UKG Harris poll.
And for those who do plan to punch the clock, more than a third admit they'll be less productive than normal.
Those numbers feed into the annual argument that the day after the Super Bowl should be a national holiday.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell may have a fix.
He's floated the idea of adding one more game to the schedule so that the Super Bowl would be played on the Sunday of President's Day weekend when many Americans already have that Monday off.
And while Super Bowl flu is a fake flu, the real deal is keeping doctors hopping.
According to stats released by the Centers for Disease Control, the levels of influenza nationwide are as high as they've been since a peak in 2009.
Fifteen states are getting walloped, including Kentucky, where a doctor told CBS News that she's seeing extraordinarily high numbers of positive cases among kids.
Not helping the situation?
That vaccination rates for students are at a six -year low.
Overall, the CDC says fewer than half of all Americans rolled up their sleeve for a flu shot this season.
He's a true ocean giant.
The marine research organization OCEARCH just announced that it caught, tagged and released its largest shark ever.
The great white, which was first spotted off the coast of Georgia, has been named Contender and measures 13 feet 9 inches from nose to tail.
The tag on the shark will provide his location for about five years, and we can all follow along on his journey.
The tracking is available on Osearch's website, and we've put a link on ours.
And while Contender is a big fella, the biggest ever tagged, he's not the largest great white ever recorded.
That distinction goes to Deep Blue, a great white caught on tape, but not tagged.
Deep Blue measures 20 feet, which is basically a whole shark longer than Contender.
In other Kid News notes, the parade of storms we told you about last week is on the march.
The second and third of three big storms will roll from the plains to the east coast between today and Thursday.
Sharing the headlines with the snow is the cold.
A blast of Arctic air may drop temperatures up to 40 degrees below average in some places.
After two rocky seasons, the Jets have reportedly jettisoned Aaron Rodgers.
According to CBS News, in a meeting last week, the team told the veteran quarterback and four -time league MVP they were moving on without him.
Whether Aaron will take his ball to another team or retire is so far unknown.
And the debutante ball for dogs is in full swing.
2 ,500 purebreds are vying for all sorts of awards at the annual Westminster Dog Show in New York, but the top honor is Best in Show.
That'll be awarded tomorrow night, with the favorites being a giant schnauzer named Monty and a German Shepherd named Mercedes.
According to the New York Times, some surprising breeds have never won that award, including the Labrador Retriever, Golden Retriever and French Bulldog.
Still to come, Taylor Swift's jaw -dropping deposit into the NFL's bank account.
But first, today's Kid News quiz.
Who won the Super Bowl?
The Eagles, 40 -22. How big is the largest great white ever caught and tagged by O -Search?
Contender is 13 feet 9 inches.
What seasonal sickness is keeping doctors extra busy right now?
The flu. Which big -name quarterback reportedly just got cut from his team?
Aaron Rodgers. In our Kid News Kicker, ever wonder how much Taylor Swift has helped the NFL's bottom line just by dating one of its players?
According to MarketWatch, she's added almost $1 billion in brand value.
TV viewership is up.
Outlets that don't normally cover the NFL now do.
On social, Travis Kelsey's Instagram followers jump from 2 .7 million before Taylor to 6 .7 million now.
And the leak says that female fans accounted for nearly half of its new followers on TikTok in 2024.
None of this is much of a surprise.
The swift lift she gives the economies of cities that host her concerts is well -documented.
In fact, market researcher Question Pro estimated that her Aris tour had a $5 billion global impact, which is more than the gross domestic product of 50 countries.
Before we go, shout -outs to some of our terrific teachers.
