Good morning and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Kim. Today is Wednesday, January 22nd, 2025.
And we begin with tickets on sale today for what could be the feel -good concert of the year.
In the spirit of Band -Aid and Live Aid, huge names are coming together to raise money for victims of the Los Angeles wildfires.
Billie Eilish, Jelly Roll, Lady Gaga, Olivia Rodrigo, Gracie Abrams, Katy Perry, Sting, No Doubt, Green Day and more are pooling their talents and donating their time for an evening of music and solidarity.
The event is called Fire Aid and will be held in two Southern California venues on one night, January 30th.
It'll also be live streamed.
The L .A. Clippers are picking up all costs with donations funding short -term relief efforts and long -term planning to prevent future fires.
Once in a generation, that's how forecasters are describing the winter storm blowing through the Deep South.
Up to six inches of snow was expected to fall on parts of northern Florida as of last night, with the western and central panhandle hardest hit.
The state has never seen more than four inches, and that was decades ago.
New Orleans, which was under its first ever blizzard warning yesterday, got 8 inches, which is the most since the 1940s.
Many schools from Texas to the Carolinas remained closed this morning.
Governors, especially in states without snow plows, are urging drivers to stay home, and thousands of flights have been canceled.
The worst of the weather is expected to clear by later today.
SpaceX has some explaining to do.
The FAA has grounded the Starship rocket until the company gets to the bottom of its mid -air failure last week.
Debris from the explosion forced Jet Blue, American, and Delta Airlines to divert dozens of flights and reportedly caused damage to property on the Caribbean islands of Turks and Caicos.
SpaceX believes a fire in the vehicle led to Starship breaking apart.
New presidents can make the Oval Office their own, and for President Trump, that means bringing back portraits of Benjamin Franklin and Andrew Jackson, a new rug, and a button.
Not just any button, but a button that summons a staffer to bring him a Diet Coke.
He had it in his first term, President Biden removed it, and now according to the Wall Street Journal, it's made a return.
The button is red and hidden inside a wooden box.
It sits on his desk, known as the Resolute Desk, which most presidents have chosen to use.
The desk was an 1880 gift from Queen Victoria to President Rutherford B.
Hayes and is made of white oak and mahogany timbers from the HMS Resolute, a British naval ship used for Arctic exploration.
What's the antidote for a lonely sunfish?
Cardboard humans. An aquarium in southern Japan came up with the crazy idea after it closed for renovations in December.
Its resident sunfish had stopped eating, and while staff thought it was sick, all the tests proved otherwise.
Maybe, just maybe, they thought it misses seeing aquarium visitors.
To compensate, they created fake guests, taped some staff uniforms to the glass of the tank, and bingo!
Just one day later, the lonely fish was side -eyeing its visitors, and its deep -sea depression was over.
Sunfish are massive, weighing up to 3 ,000 pounds, and are solitary but very, very curious, often fearlessly approaching divers in the wild.
In this case, the big fish apparently needs a big crowd.
With all the publicity, it'll undoubtedly get one when the aquarium reopens this summer.
Still to come, snow, a pizza delivery, and a really bad tip.
How the internet rallied to turn a sad story into a great one.
But first, today's Kid News quiz.
The concert to benefit L .A.
fire victims is called what?
Fire aid. How rare is the weather slamming the deep south?
It's being called a once -in -a -generation storm.
President Trump brought back an Oval Office button that does what?
Summons a Diet Coke.
What kind of aquarium fish perked up from cardboard cutouts of humans?
A sunfish. In today's Kid News Kicker, national outrage over a pathetic pizza tip is turning into a nice payday.
Connor Stefanoff of Brownsburg, Indiana, was caught on camera trudging through a wicked snowstorm in sweats and sneakers to deliver a pie.
Connor had driven most of the way, but a spin -out forced him to ditch his car and hoof it the last half mile.
Despite falling a few times, he powered on.
Lieutenant Richard Craig watched in disbelief, and on Connor's return said, I hope you got a big tip for this.
Unfortunately, he didn't.
The homeowner gave him just $2.
Lieutenant Craig opened his own wallet, then posted the story on TikTok, where strangers have pushed Connor's $2 tip to more than $28 ,000, and it's all going to a very good cause.
Connor lives with his grandmother, relies on his pizza job to help take care of her, and believes the generosity will change their lives.
