Good morning and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Kim. Today is Wednesday, June 4, 2025.
We begin with a volcanic eruption in Italy captivating the world with a spectacular show.
Mount Etna, a volcano that towers over eastern Sicily, erupted Monday, sending a plume of gases, ash, and rock high into the air.
Tourists and hikers were forced to flee the area, with one guide telling CNN, it arrived all at once, an immense smoke, immense, immense roar.
Explosions were heard as far as 30 miles away.
All were evacuated safely, and all three lava flows are now cooling.
Although Mount Etna is one of the world's most active volcanoes and has erupted several times this year, This is reportedly the first eruption of this magnitude since 2014.
The event was likely caused by a collapse of material from the side of a southeast crater.
Talk about a sticky situation.
A truck hauling about 70 ,000 pounds of honeybee hives rolled over in Bellingham, Washington this weekend.
The driver was not hurt, but about 250 million honeybees escaped — causing quite a buzz as sheriff's deputies, county employees and bee experts swarmed to the scene while the public was told to stay away to avoid getting stung.
According to CNN, local beekeepers recovered, restored and reset the hives.
The plan is to entice the bees to return to their hives and find their queen bee in the next few days.
Officials hope to save as many bees as possible as honey bees are crucial to the food supply because they pollinate crops like nuts, vegetables, berries, and melon.
It's a presidential photo, unlike any other.
The White House unveiled President Trump's official portrait this week, depicting the President in a blue suit and red tie against a black backdrop.
He's seen looking directly at the camera, with, according to Fox News, very little expression.
The image differs from those of his predecessors, in part because nearly all of the last 10 presidents have smiled in theirs to some degree.
USA Today reports that President Richard Nixon is shown beaming, while President George W.
Bush has a slight grin.
Even President Trump's portrait from his first term features a smile.
This new official portrait has just been installed in the Eisenhower Executive Office building and is also featured on the White House biography page for the 47th president.
Want to fly the friendly skies for less?
Grab a friend. According to the editor of the booking site, Thrifty Traveler, the three largest US carriers, American, United and Delta, often charge passengers more money if they're solo.
Case in point, a flight from Chicago O 'Hare to Peoria, Illinois, this month on United would cost $269 if you fly alone, but only $181 if you book for two or more passengers.
The difference didn't pan out for every flight, but travel experts found enough instances to call it a trend.
The airlines did not respond to requests for comment, and after the report came out, Delta and United quietly began adjusting some fares.
American, however, is so far holding steady.
The Tony Awards take place this weekend, celebrating what is reported to be a record -breaking year for Broadway.
According to The Guardian, the 2024 -25 year hit a whopping $1 .89 billion in ticket sales, topping the previous high of $1 .82 billion in 2018 -19.
The draw was quite a surprise, given how much less accessible and more expensive it is to go to a Broadway show than to the movies.
But theater reviewers say an unusually strong slate of both new and old shows with star -studded casts may have boosted turnout.
An added treat at the Tonys this year?
The original cast of Hamilton will perform in honor of the musical's tenth year.
