Come on! Let's master English.
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to daily easy English expression.
Today's expression is fantastic.
It is, hit the sack.
Oh boy, I would love to hit the sack right now.
To hit the sack means to go to sleep, to go to bed.
S -A -C -K. Hit the sack.
And I guess the idea of the sack is, I don't know, is it your mattress or your pillow?
I guess a long time ago, they didn't have a regular mattress or a regular pillow.
People slept on a sack, which is like a bag.
And probably inside the sack, there was straw or grass so that it was soft. and to hit the sack means to take your body and boom fall into the sack and go to bed.
Now in America we do have the sleeping bag and we can call that a knapsack, so maybe the references to that, but who cares?
It means go to bed.
So what time did YOU hit the sack yesterday?
Uh -huh, tell me, tell me.
While you tell me, let's listen to a dialogue.
Where's Shane? He hit the sack.
Oh, really? It's only ten.
He was really tired.
He was up till one.
You know, I wish I could hit the sack early.
I do. Right now, as I'm recording this podcast, It's 843 p .m. and If I could go to bed at 10 p .m. I would be so happy that'd be great, but you know what my productivity starts late and I end up working until 1 to sometimes 3 in the morning and It screws up my day.
Yeah. What about you?
What time do you hit the sack?
Do you hit the sack early or late?
Would you like to hit the sack earlier or later?
I'm curious. Leave me a message.
