Come on, let's master English. hi everybody thank you very much for downloading daily Easy English expression.
Today's podcast is brought to you by DDM.
And today's expression is to do up something.
But wait a minute. Yesterday we studied do something up.
And today we're going to study do up something.
Hmm. What on earth? How could it be different?
Well, to do up something means to zip up. up your coat or to button up Your shirt or your jacket.
So if your mother tells you, do up your jacket.
Do up your jacket. That means you should zip your zipper.
All the way up because maybe outside it is very cold.
Now, we can also say, do up your hair. To do up your hair means to, if you have long hair, it means to put your hair on top of your head to make it look nice do up your hair it can also mean to Decorate your hair.
So do your hair up. Do up your hair is similar to yesterday.
However, Do up your jacket. Do up your shirt.
Do up your pants. That means to zip your zipper.
All the way up. All right. Let's check out a dialogue.
Is it cold outside? Yes. Be sure to do up your jacket.
Okay. Where's my hat? In your pocket. What a good boy, asking his father if it's cold outside.
Yes, be sure to do up your jacket. So once again, in this case, it means to zip up.
Up your jacket. Or it might mean to button up your jacket.
Now these days it's getting warm where I live.
Actually today. was over 40 degrees Celsius.
So that's like really, really, really, really hot.
It was 105 degrees Fahrenheit outside. So believe me, I will not be doing up my jacket.
So can I say, it's so hot outside, I'm going to do down my jacket.
No, we do not have that phrasal verb. The only one we have is for buttoning your buttons all the way up. or for zipping your zipper all the way up, and it is to do up. whatever.
So if you're wearing your pants and your zipper is down, Please, do up your pants.
Do up your zipper. Please! Let's check out the dialogue again.
Is it cold outside? Yes. Be sure to do up your jacket.
Okay. Where's my hat? In your pocket. Is it cold outside?
Yes. Be sure to do up your jacket. Okay.
Where's my hat? In your pocket. Okay, that brings us to the end of another Daily Easy English Expression podcast.

That means a lot to me because you're right.
I try to use expressions that Americans are using right now, today.
And, you know, sometimes I guess they might not be perfect.
Like, for example, zip up. That's a winter expression, not a summer expression.
But if your pants are down, well, then you need to zip them up.
