Pipe dream, P-I-P-E, like a water pipe or a gas pipe, right?
Dream, D-R-E-A-M, like at night when you sleep.
Does that make any sense?
Well, let's check out the dialogue, and then I will explain about the pipe dream.

Yeah, what a pipe dream.
Hey, let the kid dream a little.
When I was in my 20s, I intended on I was going to.
I had an absolute plan to retire by the time I was 30.
And then when I was 30, I said, I'll retire when I'm 35.
And then when I was 35, I said, I'll retire when I'm 40.
And then when I got to the age of 40, I said, I don't think I'll ever be able to retire.
You need money to retire.
I didn't have any.
I still don't have any.
Early retirement, quitting my job and just being free, that was a pipe dream.
It is a pipe dream for me so far.
So far.
A pipe dream.
What is a pipe dream?
Wait a minute.
Pipe?
P-I-P-E.
Water pipe?
Gas pipe?
No, no, no, no, no.
Not that kind of pipe.
There's another kind of pipe.
One that you smoke.
You can smoke tobacco in a pipe.
But this expression actually refers to opium.
Do you know?
Opium o-p-i-u-m.
Oh, it's a drug, it's a very bad drug and uh, if you people who take the drug opium, they are disconnected from reality.
They're awake But they're in a dream world.
That is just crazy and it's not real.
A crazy dream.
A pipe dream.
That's the expression and that's where it comes from.
Yeah.
Did you know that?
Well, maybe you did know that.
It's a great expression.
Have you had a pipe dream?
Most of us have, right?
I mean, we dreamed, oh, I'm going to marry this person and life is going to be so happy.
For many people, that's a pipe dream.
We got to make it true.
We got to make our dreams come true, right?
Yeah, we can't just dream about something.
We actually have to work at it.
Like English, right?
I mean, right now you guys are doing good.
You're doing good.
You're listening to my podcast and you're learning something, right?
But let me tell you something really important.
Input, input, input is important.
Knowledge is king, right?
But using the knowledge, that's really the truth.
Knowledge is king.
I disagree.
Constant input, constant learning but never using, you're kind of just wasting time.
If you really want to master something, then you need to use it.
Whatever it is, right?
I mean, let's say you want to learn basketball.
So you start watching videos about basketball.
Yeah, I can do that.
Oh, I can do that.
I can do that.
I want to do that.
That's a pipe dream.
It's not reality.
You actually have to go out and then practice basketball, right?
