Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.

Come on, let's master English.
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression, the Podcast. Today's podcast is brought to you by Paul Melnikov, Raquel Facundes, and Nobuaki Kodama.
Thank you so much to you three people for becoming my new sponsors.
I sincerely appreciate it and thanks to these guys today's expression Well, let me say today's expression is hard to be it is it's really hard to be No, I mean today's expression is hard to beat H -a -r -d deal B -e -a -t if something is hard to beat heartbeat, like today's expression, what does that mean?
Well hard, H -A -R -D, this is my head.
So you can hear that my head is very hard, but another meaning of hard is difficult.
So in this case, difficult.
Difficult to beat, B -E -A -T, beat as a verb, well, right now I will beat my brother.
I'm hitting him. Yes, but that's not the definition in this expression.
In this expression, beat B E A T is the same as defeat, D E F E A T.
So, hard to beat means difficult to defeat.
There you go. Today's expression is hard to beat.
That means today's expression is really good.
It's very difficult to have a better expression than what we are learning today.
Does that make sense?
Of course, this expression is very common in sports.
Let's check out the dialogue.
Who do you think will win the game between the Yankees and the Astros?
Yeah, the Yankees will be hard to beat Okay, so we're talking baseball who do you think will win the game between The Yankees that's the New York Yankees and the Astros.
That's the Houston Astros So which team will win?
That's the question and the guy says the Yankees will be hard hard to beat.
So does that mean that the Yankees will win or that the Yankees will lose?
Probably. Of course the answer is the Yankees will win.
The Yankees will be hard to beat.
The Yankees will be difficult to defeat.
The Yankees are good.
The Yankees are probably going to win.
It's a great expression.
We can use it for cooking.
Oh man, my girlfriend's lasagna.
Ooh, it is hard to beat.
We can use it for music.
Oh boy, Nickelback, god I love their music man.
That's one rock band that is hard to beat.
I don't know. So anyway, there are millions of possible examples, Something is the best nothing can be better almost nothing is better You give me some examples.
Let's check out that dialogue two more times Who do you think will win the game between the Yankees and the Astros yeah, the Yankees will be hard to beat Who do you think will win the game between the Yankees and the Astros yeah, the Yankees will be hard to beat Once again everybody thank you for listening to my podcast you can become a patron a sponsor of this podcast by going to www .patreon .com slash coach shane C O A C H S H A N E and also if you're ready to study English seriously.
