How you doing today? Are you doing good?
I hope so. Today's expression is actually really useful.
It's very funny. Be careful though.
It might make the other person angry, but it is drama queen.
I'll spell it. D-R-A-M-A drama, like a television drama, a TV drama, queen, Q-U-E-E-M.
Now we use this drama queen to describe somebody who's overly dramatic.
I'll explain in a second.
Now it can be a woman obviously, queen refers to a woman, so she's a drama queen, but it can be a man too.
If a man is overly dramatic, we can call him a drama queen.
So what does it mean to be overly dramatic?
Well, let's listen to the dialogue and see if we can figure it out.
Oh no! What? What's wrong?
My mouth! It's on fire! What?
The chicken? I'm gonna die!
Water! Water! Aw, quit being a drama queen, Coach Shane.
I was not being a drama queen.
It was serious. I had some spicy chicken.
It was very spicy. It was actually very, very, very, very, very spicy.
It was like, basically, I was eating fire.
Did you ever eat fire? That's not a smart thing to do.
I put the chicken in my mouth and it was like, I put fire into my mouth.
I was dying, I needed water, I was not being a drama queen.
I was not being overly dramatic.
Maybe I was because my two little boys, Jimmy, he's four and Mikey, he's five and my wife and my mother-in-law, we all had the same chicken and they were fine.
They were not crying because of the spice level.
So yeah, maybe I was being a drama queen.
Oh my god, it's so cold outside.
I'm gonna freeze to death.
Oh no, what am I gonna do?
My feet feel like blocks of ice.
Oh, it's so cold. Oh, I'm gonna die.
I hate the winter. Quit being a drama queen.
Would you guys be quiet?
I'm trying to watch the football game.
Be quiet, you're too loud.
I can't concentrate on the show.
Quit being a drama queen.
Oh, these cookies are too sweet.
I don't like them. I'm gonna get cavities.
I'm gonna get fat. I don't like sweet cookies.
Sweet cookies really make me mad.
Quit being a drama queen.
What's wrong with my computer?
It's so slow. Oh, I want to break this computer.
I need to buy a new computer.
I hate having a slow computer.
Quit being a drama queen.
Quit being a drama queen.
Don't overreact so much.
Calm down. It's not the end of the world.
Just relax. Oh my god, Cote Shane is such a drama queen.
That's not true actually.
I don't think I'm a drama queen.
Lots of things make me mad, but I try not to explode.
I try not to be too dramatic.
What about you? Now sometimes, you know, we are, we tend to be, we can be drama queens.
Some guys I know. For example, Alex Mosslove.
This guy is never a drama queen.
He's like a lion. Do you remember the movie Lion King?
He's like the lion. Just always calm.
Yeah, I really respect that.
But other guys I know like Makhmoud, Alex who lives in the Massachusetts area, Ken, who's my assistant in China.
And these are just the guys that I know personally, my students, people I work with.
These guys are drama queens.
I'm telling you they're drama queens.
And ladies, I'm not even gonna talk about ladies.
Because you know, the expression is drama queen.
So many times it's directed at women.
But it's kind of okay for women to be drama queens because I'm gonna get in trouble.
I'll say it anyway, who cares?
Women tend to be more emotional than men.
I mean, it's okay for a woman to show her emotions more loudly than a guy.
Now I understand nowadays, you know, the young generation, they don't know their pronouns.
So it's different. But you know, for us older people, especially the guys, guys listen to me.
Don't overreact. Don't get dramatic.
Don't be a drama queen, okay?
I need to take my own advice.
Trust me, sometimes I know it's true.
I know sometimes ask my wife sometimes, not often, but sometimes I'm a drama queen.
