Hello everybody, welcome back to DailyEasyEnglishExpressions, the BudGas.
Coach Shane here, how are you doing for me?
It's pretty nice day, it's October 12, 2022.
Temperatures very nice, about 13 degrees outside, Celsius, 57 degrees Fahrenheit.
I like this weather. Fall is here, dude.
It is my favorite weather.
Oh, and dude, we have our 2023 October sale coming up at the end of the month.

And today's expression is, dude.
And the way we use the word, dude.
Can you spell that? D-U-D-E.
Dude. Yeah, dude. Now dude, it means guy, okay?
Could be pal, it could be friend, it could be any guy.
However, we rarely use it to an old guy.
And even me, you know, I'm like in my 50s, I'm kind of old.
So for me to use the word, dude, it's okay.
But actually it's more of a younger guy's word.
Dude. Dude. Now dude was really popular in the 1970s and 1980s.
So I grew up using the word dude, but they still use it.
Dude. D-U-D-E. Now typically it means guy, but it can also mean other things too.
Dude. D-U-D-E can have lots of different meanings.
So I'm going to give you a short dialogue.
I want you to listen to the word dude.
I use it four different times and it has three different meanings.
Let's see if you can understand the different meanings of the word dude in this dialogue.
Here we go. Sup dude. Hey dude, check out my watch.
Dude. How much was that?
Free. I took it from my brother.
Dude. He will be mad. He went to Boston for college.
Alright, so we got a couple of guys here.
Sound young. They sound young.
The first guy says, sup dude.
S-U-P. That's the pronunciation.
Actually the words would be what is what's up?
What's up, dude? But in daily English, sub dude, sub dude, sub dude.
Nowadays instead of dude, lots of younger people use bro, B-R-O or bra, B-R-A-H.
Same thing. Bro, brother, bra, dude.
Same thing. Sub dude. Sup bra.
Sup bro. Sup brother. Yeah, same idea.
Hey dude. Hey, means hi.
Hey dude. So these guys use it to each other.
Hey dude, sub dude. Hey dude.
Yeah, you can just use it like that.
Check out my watch. Look at my watch.
So I guess the second guy has a pretty nice watch.
And the first guy goes, dude.
How much was that? So what do you think the dude means in this case?
Dude. Oh my god. Wow, amazing.
That's nice. How much was that?
That's right. And the second guy says, free.
I took it from my brother.
Oh man. So in this case took T-O-O-K.
Maybe it means kind of stole, right?
I stole it from my brother.
That's a bad brother. So then the first guy says, dude.
He will be mad. Dude. Oh my god.
Oh no. Man, that's not good.
Oh, he will be mad. So the word dude in that case has this kind of negative, like worried kind of tone.
So you can use the word dude in so many different situations, but just put some emotion into it and you can change the meaning.
You can change the feeling.
Finally, the other guy says, he went to Boston for college.
He's gone. He's going to be gone for several months.
He'll be back during Christmas vacation.
So until Christmas, his nice watch is now my watch.
And that's the idea. So I don't have a brother.
So I don't know if this situation happens, but I think it does, right?
Do you have a brother or ladies?
Do you have a sister? Guys, do you have a brother?
Do you take things from your brother?
Does your little brother or little sister take things from you?
I bet it happens. I've got two boys, Mikey and Jimmy.
Jimmy's the young one, Mikey's the older one.
I know Jimmy loves to take Mikey's stuff.
So I think it's a real situation.
And maybe one day they'll call each other dude, dude, dude.
It's a great word. All right.
So that is it for this EQB podcast.
Thank you for listening.
Again, don't forget our October sale is coming up.
It is huge. It's a sale for 2023.
All right. For 2023 memberships, it is a huge sale.

Any chance we can get to save some money is very important.
