Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello everybody, welcome back to daily, easy English expression, good bud, gals.
Today's expression number 1062, my bad, my bad, BAD, not BED.
BED, where you sleep, bed, and BAD, the opposite of good, bad.
So get that, bed, bad.
Today we're studying bad, BAD, my bad, my bad, my bad is a really common expression
and it simply means my mistake, I'm sorry, oh, that's my fault F-A-U-L-T, my fault,
my mistake, I'm sorry, oh, oh, my bad, my bad, and we use it all the time.
It is a bit, it's not slang, but it is a bit casual and in a business situation, I recommend
you say, oh, I'm sorry, my fault, that's much better, but in a daily situation, absolutely
my bad is perfect, it's great to use.
Yeah, so I think let's just check out a dialogue.
Have a nice day, thanks for shopping at Walmart.
Thanks, I asked for this to be double bag.
Oh, my bad, there you are.
Great, thanks a lot.
There you go, a really simple conversation, the guy goes to the store and buys some groceries
and he's at the checkout counter and he pays for the groceries, the clerk put his groceries
in a bag and then says, thanks for shopping at Walmart and the customer, you or me, says,
thanks.
I asked for this to be double bag.
So what does it mean double bag?
So sometimes when you buy groceries, if they're like really heavy, one plastic bag is not
strong enough, right?
So maybe having two plastic bags is better.
We say double bagged.
So the guy wanted the groceries double bagged, but the clerk just gave him a single bag.
So again, he says, I asked for this to be double bagged.
So then the clerk says, oh, my bad, oh, I'm sorry, my fault, I forgot.
Oh, let me fix that and he puts it into another bag and now it is double bagged and he says,
there you are.
And the customer, you or I says, great, thanks a lot.
That's it.
The guy made a mistake and he fixed it, my bad, my bad, oh, my fault.
Now usually when we say my bad, my mistake, I'm sorry, we fix it right away.
That's the best thing to do.
So this is a super common expression.
Again, in a professional business situation, it's much better to say, oh, I'm sorry,
oh, it's my fault.
I'll fix it, something like that.
But you're going to hear this expression a lot, my bad.
And now you will understand.
He's not saying my bad, B-E-D, he's saying my bad, B-A-D, which means my fault, I'm sorry,
I forgot.
Let me fix it.
That's the idea.
All right, it's a great expression, really, really common expression.
