Hello everybody, welcome back to daily easy English expression, the podcast today is number
1554 on clearance. That's today's expression on clearance. If something is on clearance,
that means they're selling it at a really low price. It's a very cheap price and the
important thing, it's never going to be in the store again. If something, if you go to
the store and you see a clearance section or something is on clearance, that means they
are clearing out the store of that product. They are cleaning out the store. The store
will no longer have that product. So they're selling it for a very cheap price, for a
very low price, so they can get rid of it. They have something new. That's the idea.
So for example, let's say you have an iPhone, right? I have an iPhone, I don't know what
I have. I think I have an iPhone 6 or something like that. If you go to the iPhone store,
do they have any iPhone 6s? No, they're gone. Will they have an iPhone 6 in the future?
No, it's gone forever. So in the beginning, the iPhone 6 was very expensive. But later
on when the iPhone 7 came out, they wanted to only sell iPhone 7s, but they still had iPhone
6s. Nobody wants to buy an iPhone 6. They have a brand new iPhone 7. So what do they do
so that people buy the iPhone 6? They put it on clearance. The price is so low that many
people have to buy it. Oh my God, it's so low. I got to get this. That's the whole idea
of to put something on clearance. If you see something on clearance, you know, you can
be sure the price is very, very low. All right, check out the dialogue. Nice light.
I got it on clearance. How much? 20 bucks. Regular 80. Wow, that's pretty good. Yeah.
So this guy went shopping. He bought a light for, you know, I guess his, his living room,
his house somewhere in his house. And it looks really nice. And the guy says, oh, that's
a nice light. How much did you pay? And the guy says, I paid 20 bucks, $20. But the
regular price was 80. Wow, that's a 75% sale. That is a huge discount. He must have
gotten that light on clearance. That's the whole idea. Does that make sense? It's a great
expression. Speaking about on clearance, my lessons are not on clearance. Now we keep
making good ones, but we have so many lessons we want to, we want you to get there.
