Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello everybody, welcome back to David, Easy English Expressions, the podcast.
This is number one thousand thirty two and the word we're studying a word today is apathy,
apathy, apathy, apathy, apathy.
And I know you guys don't have apathy when it comes to studying English, right?
In particular, Mateo Tiago, who lives in minus jettadgette.
I don't want to say minus jarius.
That's obviously not wrong or not right.
Minus jer, jer, jer, jer, I don't know how to say it in Brazil.
I apologize.
Mine and I know I have many students from this area in Brazil, minus jer, jeraius, minus
jeraius, minus jeraius, maybe.
Anyway, Mateo's Mapa, that's his name.
Okay, over to God.
Thank you so much for listening and I really appreciate it.
He asked for a shout out.
So I'm giving you a shout out.
You guys, if you want me to say your name or you're from, say hi, I absolutely will.
Just send me a message, right?
Twitter, email, whatever.
Okay, so Mateos and everybody else again, today's word is apathy.
If you have apathy, it means you don't care.
You have no feelings about the situation.
So we could say apathetic.
So right now in 2021, a big news story is COVID, COVID-19, still in the news.
But some people don't care.
Hey, man, are you going to get a vaccine?
Are you going to wear a mask?
Are you going to wash your hands?
Eh, whatever, I don't care.
That person has apathy with regards to COVID-19.
He's apathetic towards COVID-19.
We have the situation where the United States left Afghanistan and lots of problems.
Lots of people don't care.
Whatever.
They show apathy.
They're showing apathy.
They have apathy.
They don't care.
Eh, whatever, I don't care.
So having apathy in some situations is actually good because we cannot worry about everything,
right?
But always having apathy.
Well, that's not a good thing.
That's not a good thing.
We need to care about some things, right?
Family, your job, your health.
These are things that we should always care about.
If you're religious, you should care about that too, right?
Absolutely.
And then you can care about things like your country and society and the world and the
environment.
A lot of different things we can care about.
But if you don't care about it, you have apathy.
Check out the dialogue.
You know why your teacher yelled at you, Timmy?
No.
It's your apathy.
Do you know apathy?
Huh.
I don't know and I don't care.
Exactly.
Yeah, I think this was the father yelling at his son, Timmy.
Do you know apathy?
And the kid says, I don't know and I don't care.
And that's actually the definition of apathy.
To not care and also because you don't care to not really know.
So if I said to you, hey, what is your opinion about the United States leaving Afghanistan?
And you could say, well, actually, I don't really know.
And actually, I don't really care.
That is absolute apathy.
It's perfect apathy.
And if you're not from the United States, if you're not in the United States, if you're
not from Afghanistan, yeah, I don't blame you.
Who cares, right?
I mean, it's none of your business.
It doesn't bother you or affect you, right?
Although human humans, we are all humans.
Anyway, I'm not going to get political.
I won't get political.
Let's be apathetic towards politics.
Let's not care.
People are people.
So why should it be you and I are not going to care?
So why should it be you and I should get along.
So what's the next word?
Yeah, leave that in a message.
I want to know what the next word is.
That's my song.
