Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello everybody, welcome back to DailyEasyEnglish Expression the Podcast.
Oh, today's such a good expression.
This is real, daily English.
So the meaning is nothing, zero.
And the expression is diddly squat.
What? Yeah, that's right.
Diddly squat. Diddly squat.
Diddly squat. Diddly squat.
Can you write it down? Try and write it down.
Try and write it down. I'll say it slowly.
There we go. Diddly squat.
Should I say one more time?
Diddly squat. Did you get that?
The spelling. Now this is actually two words.
Some people write it as two words, but most people write it with a hyphen or a dash in the middle.
So here we go. D-I-D-D-L-Y-S-Q-U-A-T.
Okay? Now the meaning is nothing, but it can also mean anything.
Okay? Actually, I guess if we replace diddly squat, then we would use a negative plus anything.
So for example, I have diddly squat.
I have nothing. I don't have anything.
Are the same thing. I have nothing.
I don't have anything. Are the same thing.
And today's expression is diddly squat.
I have diddly squat. D-I-D-D-L-Y-S-Q-U-A-T.
Diddly. So it's just like little, L-I-T-T-L-E, little.
It's little, but it's a D.
It's dittle. And then there's a Y, diddly, diddly, diddly squat, diddly squat.
Hey Shane, it's Sunday.
What did you do today? Nothing.
I didn't do anything. Diddly squat.
Look out the dialogue. Are you still working on that software?
Oh yeah, it's really complicated.
I thought Dave was going to help you.
He knew diddly squat. Oh great.
He knew diddly squat. He didn't know anything.
He knew nothing. He didn't know anything.
He knew nothing. He knew diddly squat.
What a great expression.
So how much money do you have in your wallet?
Diddly squat. What did you have for lunch?
Diddly squat. How many beers did you drink last Friday?
Diddly squat. How is your love life?
Diddly squat. There you go.
A bunch of different examples.
Don't you like it? Great.
Alright guys, that's it for today's expression.
