And my goal is to do a bang -up job, and that is today's expression.
I want to do a bang -up job.
He really did a bang -up job.
I know you are going to do a bang -up job.
This is a great expression.
Let me spell it out.
A job, J -O -B, a what job, a bang -up job, bang -up, B -A -N -G dash U -P, B -A -N -G dash, or hyphen, U -P, a bang -up job.
And what does a bang -up job mean?
I'm guessing you can guess that you already know.
It means a great job.
You did a bang -up job.
You did a great job.
I'm hoping to do a bang -up job.
I'm hoping to do a great job.
It's really a great expression, but why do we say bang -up?
I'll explain after you check out the dialogue.
Wow, nice. I made this for my podcast.
You did a real bang -up job.
Thanks. I put in a lot of time.
For my podcast, I have a lot of electronic equipment and a lot.
So I needed to build kind of a rack, R -A -C -K, so that I could put my equipment on, and I did.
I built a nice rack.
It's probably too heavy, but it looks good.
I did a bang -up job.
I did a great job. I did a really nice job.
Except I use nails instead of screws, and now I know you're supposed to use them.
It's better to use screws.
Anyway, so why do we say bang -up?
Bang like an explosion.
Bang. No, no, no, no.
It actually comes from the idea of building.
And if you build something with wood, you need a nail and a hammer, right?
And if you do a good job, you put the nail in the right place, and you bang it with the hammer and swoop.
The nail goes into the wood.
That's the idea. To do a bang -up job means you are doing a great job.
You're hitting the nail on the head.
You're putting the nail into the wood perfectly, and everything is lovely.
That's the idea of a bang -up job.
You're doing a bang -up job.
It's a great expression.
Once again, join me if you're listening live.
And this is 2020, end of February.
What is the date? For me right now, it's 9 .45 a .m.
February 26th. Ooh, tomorrow my son will be two years old.
Oh, dear. So, yeah, we have a seven -day English challenge coming up on March 1st.
That's this coming Sunday.
I would love it if you could join.
I will do a bang -up job.
You guys have a fantastic day.
Check out the dialogue two more times, and together, let's master English.
