Hello everybody my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on let's master English.
Hello everybody welcome back to daily easy English expression the podcast.
Today we have podcast number 945 and we have another phrasal verb.
Great one phrasal verbs are lots of fun.
It is to tap into. To tap into something.
T -A -P into. Alright so to tap you have to think like this.
On your in your kitchen you have a sink and one word that we can use to describe the sink is a tap a water tap.
The idea is you have a faucet which is connected to a water pipe.
So if you turn on the faucet the water in the pipe comes out.
You are tapping into the water pipe and you're getting water.
Did you ever hear of maple syrup?
They make that delicious maple syrup from maple trees.
They get the water or the sap SAP from inside the tree.
How do they do that?
Well they tap into the tree.
They take a metal thing and I'm not gonna describe too much but they put this metal thing inside the tree and then the water from inside the tree comes out the metal thing into a bucket.
Anyway they're tapping the tree.
They're tapping into a maple tree in order to get the sap, the water, SAP, the water from inside the tree and then they can make syrup.
So to tap into is a really great phrasal verb and we use it in daily English too and it means to make a connection and after you make a connection to use it.
To use that connection to use the information, to use the people for your benefit, for your business, for your growth.
Do you understand? So if you live in a big city and you want to expand your knowledge, you want to learn something, you might want to tap into the local university.
It's local, it's right there.
You live nearby, go ahead and use their library.
Take a class. You're tapping into the university.
If you take a class then you can use the libraries and maybe the gyms and stuff like that.
That's the idea. So this is a great very useful verb especially if you want to learn something new, if you want to utilize something new and in my case for my business, if I want to find new students, I need to find a place where I can tap into.
Someplace has a lot of people and I need to make a connection with those people and maybe I can build my business with those people.
Check out the dialog.
Your average student is in his 30s, right?
Yes. If you want younger students, you should tap into places like TikTok and WeChat, but I like my older students.
It's true. The average age of my DDM student is probably 35 to 40 we have some younger students too but most of our students are professionals.
But a lot of my teachers, a lot of my coaches are telling me we should tap into the younger people.
Right now we're doing good with the older people.
Let's tap into the younger people.
So where do we go? How do we find younger people who are interested in English?
Who want to master English?
And some of the suggestions are we should tap into places like TikTok.
Have you ever heard of TikTok?
T -I -K, T -O -K? Yeah.
I don't know what it is.
It's something like Facebook but very popular for kids, I guess.
Or we should tap into places like WeChat.
WeChat. Ah, that's also very popular.
And then there are places like Telegram.
We could tap into places like Telegram.
So right now I have Instagram account and a Facebook account and a Twitter account but I'm not a social media guy, you know what I mean?
I don't use social media too much.
I really should. I really need to tap into those markets.
There's a lot of potential people out there on Twitter, on Instagram, on Facebook, in TikTok, in WeChat, in Telegram who might actually want to take our classes.
So you guys can help me.
Okay? You guys can help me tap into these other places including in your country.
Right? I mean I think every country has a place that's very popular.
I know when I lived in Korea they had...
I don't even remember what it was...
they had something.
I forgot it. But you know like anyway they had like Naver and Naver communities.
In China we have Billie Billie.
We're just starting to tap into Billie Billie.
We like that. It's not easy because everything's in Chinese.
I don't know what I'm doing.
We have Weibo. Weibo in China.
In Russia we have vk .vk .com but once again I'm not very good at social media.
So can you guys help me?
Can you recommend my free lessons and our classes to people in those different communities?
