Hello everybody. My name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello everybody, welcome back to daily Easy English Expressions.
The podcast. Thank you so much for listening.
It's been a while. I just had my week in review.
With all of my students, DDM, Perf, Action English students, with everybody and we had a great time.
Had some hangouts also at the end of the month and at the beginning of the month it's super busy.
So, thank you very much for your patience.
But today I'm back and we've got a great expression.
So if you ever, you know, think about buying something or think about purchasing a service.
But you're worried that it might be really expensive.
Maybe it's too expensive.
So what we can do is we can ask for the price.
But we don't say what is the price?
What is the cost? We have another very professional expression and we say, could I get a quote?
Could you give me a quote?
What is your quote?
Q. U. O. T. E. Yes.
Q. U. O. T. E. Can mean price.
Especially your proposed price, the price that you are offering.
So I can go online and I can see the price of a car is $10 ,000.
Okay. So I call the guy and I say, Yeah, I saw your car on the internet and you're selling it for $10 ,000.
That's okay. But if I give you cash, can you give me a better quote?
A cash? Yeah, I'll sell it for $8 ,000.
Boom. He gave you a new quote.
He gave you a different quote.
And the price was better.
So that's the idea of the word quote.
It can mean price. Check out the dialogue.
USA movers, can I help you?
I'll be moving from Las Vegas to Chicago.
Can I get a quote for door to door service?
I live in a one bedroom.
Sure thing. What's the move out date?
Tomorrow. Tomorrow.
That's crazy. Okay, so this guy is moving and it was me actually a couple years ago.
The guy's moving from Las Vegas, Nevada, all the way to Chicago.
And he needs a moving company.
He wants a company to help him move his stuff.
He needs a big truck and they have to drive from Las Vegas to Chicago.
So how much is it? What's your price?
What is your offer?
Can I get a quote? Would you give me a quote?
For your door to door service from my apartment in Las Vegas to my new place in Chicago door to door service.
And that's the idea.
Okay. And if you're wondering what the quote was for a one bedroom apartment, when I moved from Las Vegas to Nevada, it was $4 ,000.
Really expensive. Yeah, very, very expensive.
But the guys did a good job.
So I was happy. Actually, you know what, they broke a desk.
Oh, they broke some bookcases too.
So the guys did not do a good job.
But I didn't care. They were cheap.
A quote, a price. If you're calling for car insurance or health insurance or life insurance, different companies have different prices.
So you can ask them for a quote.
What is your offer?
What is your price?
Hi, I'm calling different insurance companies.
You know, I'm looking for some car insurance.
What quote can you give me?
Okay, thank you. I'll get back to you.
And then you call another company.
What quote can you give me?
Okay, thank you. I'll get back to you.
Great expression, very professional, and we use it when we're looking for the best price.
You guys have a fantastic day.
