Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on. Let's master English.
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Easy English Expressions, the podcast.
It is Monday for me.
Monday, what is the date?
It's like the first Monday in July, July 2nd.
Yeah, I like it. The first half of 2018 is behind us.
We are now into the second half.
So, you know, if you have some regrets, if you didn't get something done, something finished, if you didn't start something in 2018 that you were hoping to start, well, hey, now is a great time.
You know, it's the second half of the year, and there's no better time than the present to start something or to finish something.
So do it. It's July.
It's the middle of summer for me.
For most of you, some of you, it's the middle of winter.
So it might not seem like a great time to start something.
But like I said, there's no better time than the present.
And right now, let's study today's expression.
It's easy. It's one word.
It is goosebumps. Goosebumps.
G -O -O -S -E -B -U -M -P -S.
Goosebumps. Now in America, we say goosebumps.
In Korea, they said chicken skin.
Chicken skin, of course, in the Korean language.
And I think in America, some people actually say chicken skin, too.
But yeah, these two words, goose, well, that's a type of bird.
Chicken, that's a type of bird.
Goosebumps, chicken bumps.
What do they mean? I think you'll understand when you listen to the dialogue.
I'm cold. I should turn the heat on.
Hello, Shane. Who said that?
Who's there? Now I've really got goosebumps.
Whoa. Yeah, that's kind of scary.
So you're home alone.
It's cold. And what happens to your skin?
You might get goosebumps.
If you look at your skin, your arm or maybe your leg or maybe the back of your neck, especially your arm or your leg, and you're cold, your skin gets those little bumps, right?
The hair kind of stands up and it's like, and you can feel like bumps all over your skin.
Okay. Now, not only when you're cold, but when you're scared, you can have the same sensation, the same feeling, those bumps all over your skin.
And that's the idea.
If you ever look at a chicken or a goose's skin, you will see that it's not very smooth.
There's actually a lot of little bumps everywhere.
Why are there so many bumps?
Because of the feathers.
Okay. Now, obviously humans do not have feathers, but we have hair and it's the same idea.
Yeah. So chickens have chicken skin.
Geese when we're cold and when we're scared, we get goosebumps.
When was the last time you had goosebumps?
For me, it was yesterday.
I was taking a shower and I got out of the shower and it was cold.
I had goosebumps. That's today's expression.
