Hello everybody! Welcome back to daily easy English expression the podcast.
Thank you very much for listening, guys.
Today we have a great verb to learn.
and it's gonna be surprising.
I wanna first of all thank my sponsors, Isaac Jonathan.
Is it Isaac or Isaiah?
I'm curious. Isaac Jonathan, thank you so much for your huge donation.
It's greatly appreciated and also to Oscar Montoya.
Oscar Montoya, another huge donation.
We need it, guys, we sincerely appreciate it and we're investing it back into our videos and software.
And like I said, the goal is to hire somebody full time.
So thank you very much.
All right, today's expression is to grill.
G -R -I -L -L. That sounds easy, to grill.
Yeah, when we cook, we can grill hamburgers.
We can grill steak.
but what if your teacher or your boss or your wife or husband grills you?
Oh boy does this mean they're going to eat you?
No, no. I hope not.
Yeah that would be really terrible.
That's really wrong.
Don't grill other people using fire but But you can grill people and what it means is to ask questions very intensely and the idea is that person is probably guilty of something or they're hiding some information.
So if you grill someone, you're asking them questions and questions and really intensely and never giving up and and you're you're saying a question this way and then changing the words to this way and then changing the words again, this is the idea of grilling.
Have you ever been grilled?
I've been grilled as a child by my mom so many times!
Have I ever been grilled by my boss?
Ah yeah yeah I have been grilled by a couple bosses.
I hated those guys.
Being grilled is never fun.
Check out the dialog.
Are you okay? The boss just grilled me about this stolen money.
What did you tell him?
I told him you might know.
Oh, that's terrible.
So at the company, somebody stole money.
And the boss grilled one guy.
So who took the money?
Where were you at 5 o 'clock?
What time did you leave the office?
Where were you at 4 .30?
Who did you talk to?
Who else did you see?
The boss was asking questions, and questions, and questions, and questions.
And this guy has no idea.
and the boss said well who else might know and The guy gave his friend's name So now the boss will grill the other person It's terrible unless he's guilty if he's guilty.
He should go to jail Yeah, it depends on how much money Five dollars go to jail right?
I don't know so to grill again.
Be careful of the pronunciation yesterday, we had drill drill, drill, drill, D -R -I -L -L, and today it's grill, grill, grill.
Again, there is vibration.
So try and get that vibration with the G, just like yesterday, we had vibration with the D.
Make sure you work on that.
Again, these are things that we really focus on in our perf classes.
We do it in DDM too.
