Today's expression!
Oh boy, weed. Weed.
W E E D. Not weeds.
Weeds. If we add an S, it's different.
No S, just weed. So last week, or the week before actually, last podcast, we studied the term dope, okay?
D -O -P -E, a dope. All right.
And a dope is to be a stupid person, to be dope is to be really really cool.
Another definition of dope is marijuana.
Marijuana, marijuana, the drug that you smoke, right?
And another word for that is weed.
Weed, do you smoke weed?
Means, do you smoke marijuana?
Have you ever smoked weed?
Have you ever smoked dope?
That means, have you ever smoked marijuana?
All right, so we got many, many words for this word, uh, for marijuana.
And, you know, I'm guessing 90 % ...
maybe more, maybe 95%, maybe 99 % of you have never smoked weed and do not want to smoke weed, are not interested in smoking weed, which is great.
However, if you're watching a TV show, if you're listening to the news if you're reading a book or listening to an audiobook a podcast you're going to hear the word weed weed with no S it's the same as dope DOPE when we say smoke dope it means marijuana marijuana M -A -R -A -J -U -A -N -A check out the dialogue.
Only dopes smoke dope.
Eh, I don't judge a person just because they smoke weed.
Marijuana is a drug.
Not in every state.
Uh -huh. Yeah, dope.
Smoke dope, smoke weed, smoke marijuana.
Now, for me, you know, I'm an old guy.
well not that old, but old enough.
And to me marijuana is a drug.
However for lots of people it's not a drug, it's just something casual like alcohol, like a beer.
Yeah, even now in America in many states you can buy and grow and smoke marijuana and not be breaking a state law, yeah.
So some states it's okay.
Now interestingly they say marijuana can be very good for some people who are sick.
Hmmm. Yeah, well, you know, I'm not against that, but should marijuana be legal?
Oh boy, that's a tough one.
Do I... now I'm gonna have a son.
Do I want my son to smoke marijuana?
No. No, and I'll do my best to prevent it.
You know, he's gonna do what he wants to do, but I will absolutely do my best to prevent it.
But am I completely against marijuana?
No. No, I'm not. In fact when I was very young, a teenager, I did smoke marijuana a couple of times and it was kind of like beer, but yeah, I did it a couple times and I have never done it again.
I just don't think I'll ever do it again but the laws and the culture in America is changing a little bit.
Personally, yeah, I'm not sure if that's a good or a bad thing.
There might be some good parts to it but I think there's a lot of bad parts to it also.
I don't know, what do you think about weed.
