December 29 2017 the last Friday of this year I hope you have a super weekend Monday can you believe it Monday is 2018 I'm pretty excited we start our classes again on Monday are you doing anything on Monday Okay, probably taking the day off, relaxing, coat shame, nope, I'm working.
Ha, ha, ha, ha. Uh, anyway, uh, today we have a great word.
It's a funny word. You ready?
Kakamame. Kakamame.
It's one word. I'll spell it.
C -O -C -K -A -M -A -C -O -K -A -M -A.
M -I -E. Cockamamee. I'll spell it one more time.
You ready? Cockamamee.
Here we go. C -O -C -K -A - M -A -M -I -E.
Cockamamee. Cockamamee is a word that simply means ridiculous, crazy, nonsense, stupid, Silly!
And we usually use it to describe a cockamamie idea.
A cockamamie excuse.
A cockamamie story!
This is almost always how we use it.
Check out the dialogue.
Hey where's my hash browns?
No hash browns. McDonalds said all day breakfast.
They gave me some kakame -my story about having just one deep fryer and it's either french fries or hash browns.
Do you guys know what hash browns are?
They're really good.
It's uh if you go to McDonald's and If you have their breakfast and you have the eggs They'll give you hash browns hash browns are like potatoes.
Okay, it's a you know, they're cut up potatoes They're deep -fried.
Mmm and and actually hash browns are really different from french fries Well, they look different But yeah, this story is true in America you can get breakfast any time of day.
You can get breakfast at McDonald's at breakfast time, lunch time, or dinner time.
However, if you go to a small town McDonald's where they don't have many customers, they only have one deep fryer.
And McDonald's needs deep fryers to cook French fries.
But french fry grease, and hash brown grease, is different.
So in a big city at McDonald's, they have at least two deep fryers.
One for french fries, and one for hash browns.
But in a small town, McDonald's, they only have one deep fryer.
And the manager must make a decision.
When to stop making hash browns, change the grease and make French fries.
And of course they usually stop after lunch or before lunch because lunch time people want French fries.
So yeah it is a true story but the problem is on television, McDonald's advertises breakfast 24 hours and for me, Coach Shane, when I think of breakfast at McDonald's, I think of eggs and hash browns.
So, when I go to McDonald's and ask for a breakfast and they say there is no hash browns, what do you mean there's no hash browns?
The sign said breakfast 24 hours a day.
Breakfast is eggs and hash browns.
No hash browns, Then it's not breakfast you're lying.
Well sir We're sorry We only have one deep fryer and we have to make a decision either french fries or hash browns and right now It's lunchtime.
So we're making french fries.
Oh, that's some ridiculous story.
That's a stupid story I don't believe your excuse that's a cock -a -mamie story Okay, that was a really long explanation, I apologize I hope you understand.
It's a great word, and we do have two spellings.
So I gave you C -O -C -K -A -M -A -M -I -E, right?
I think, for me, that's the common spelling.
But another spelling is C -O -C -K -A -M -A -M -Y.
So instead of IE, you can change it to a Y.
But once again, in America, I think IE is more common.
