Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello everybody, welcome back to daily easy English expression the podcast.
It is November 9th 2017.
The temperature is minus one, one below zero, and that's in Fahrenheit.
In Celsius, it is minus 18.
Yeah, it's cold. It's cold outside and this is really cold for November, minus 18 Celsius, that's normal for January.
end of December January you know part of February that's normal but in November no that's really cold so that's cold it's very very cold but it's beautiful we got some fresh snow last night about two inches about I don't know four or five centimeters it's just gorgeous it looks beautiful outside that's for sure but the trade -off is it's really cold so where I live it's beautiful the snow is gorgeous, but the trade -off is, it's super cold.
And that is today's expression, trade -off, trade -off.
It's one word, actually it's two words with a hyphen, T -R -A -D -E dash O -F -F, trade -off, the trade -off.
What is a trade -off?
A trade -off is when you can have something really really wonderful, really great, really excellent, but you also have to have something really bad or you have to give up something really valuable.
This is the idea. So you have to really think about the situation.
You could have A but you also have to have B.
You could have a but you have to give up B.
That's the trade -off.
Giving up B or having B that's the trade -off.
B is a bad thing. Something you don't want so for me I love the cold weather but minus 18 in November that's that's really cold.
But I love the snow.
So Shane, coat Shane do you really love the snow?
Yes, okay, then we'll give you snow, but we'll also give you minus 18 degrees Celsius.
Is that okay? man Yes, yes, I accept it's okay For me the trade -off is okay.
It's okay. I like it.
I'll accept it check out the dialogue So if you work for us will pay you a lot of money Oh!
Ha ha! What's the trade -off?
You will have no time to spend it.
Huh? Ugh! Then... Oh boy, so yeah, they're going to pay you tons of money, lots of money, but you will have no time to spend it.
So what would you do?
Would you accept the job?
Or not? Hmmmm, yeah.
The trade -off. The trade -off.
great word. There was a question on Twitter a couple weeks ago the question was if you could become a millionaire to never ever ever have a money problem but you're going to die 10 years early would you take the money.
So the the tons of money that's the really good thing the trade -off is you lose 10 years of your life so normally you're gonna die at 75 well if you accept the money you're gonna die at 65 you lose 10 years of your life if you're gonna die at 45 you accept the money you're gonna die at 35 so you're really really rich but you lose 10 years, what would you do?
Would you accept the money and the trade -off of losing 10 years?
For me, absolutely not.
I would not accept the money.
I need my time, I need those 10 years.
I need those 10 years to help you with your English and to create a wonderful family.
Absolutely. I don't need the money.
I mean, I would love, yeah, I would love to be really rich, that would be great.
But if I had to give up 10 years if the trade -off were 10 years of my life No, thank you.
I would I would say no.
Nope. I would say no.
What about you? Yeah, leave your answers respond on Twitter on Facebook.
I'd love to see your responses Let's see it's Thursday today.
So for my perf students, we have a new assignment and the lesson videos coming today and if you're a DDM student, we also have a new assignment.

It sounds boring but actually it's really interesting.
