Hello, everybody! Welcome back to daily Easy English Expressions.
It is August 21st 2017 702 a .m.
today Chicago time starting around I think around lunchtime basically around lunch time.
We have a full solar Eclipse in the United States that means we have the Sun, but then the moon is going to come out and Cover the Sun and did you know?
This is amazing. The size of the moon and its distance completely covers the sun, which is obviously much bigger and much farther away.
But how perfect is that?
The location of the moon and the sun to the earth are just absolutely perfect for a solar eclipse.
Truly amazing, amazing stuff.
Kinda makes you think.
Okay guys, current weather for me it's 50 degrees Fahrenheit, which is 10 degrees Celsius.
Low humidity about 63 percent humidity not too bad where I am.
Unfortunately, I do not think I will be able to see the solar eclipse because it is cloudy!
But, anyway, I'm thinking about going live at that time of the day, so follow me on Twitter, follow me on Facebook, and if I go live, you'll be the first to know.
Okay, today's expression is really simple.
Golly! Golly! Oh, golly!
Oh golly Yeah, golly G -o -l -l -y Golly is it's an old expression, okay So nowadays a lot of people don't use it but we can use it to be funny And it is a funny expression golly G -o -l -l -y that means oh Wow.
Oh my goodness. Oh my god, really?
uh and we use it almost always in very enjoyable situations oh my god so for example oh my god we use that in enjoyable situations but also when something terrible happens oh my god oh that's terrible golly golly we can use it in a terrible situation too but like I said it's an hear it they kind of laugh.
So using gully in a terrible situation doesn't really work very well.
But using it in a positive or a silly, amazing, funny, nice situations is perfect.
Check out the dialog.
Uncle Shane! Look at my drawing.
Oh gully! Is that me?
No! It's a bear! oh well I kind of look like a bear don't I that's a perfect usage so Uncle Shane talking to his nephew a little child maybe three four five years old the little child made a drawing made a picture and you know when children make a picture well at least me when I was a child and I made a picture it was almost impossible to know what it was is that uh is that a human is that a dog is that a bear what is it it's really difficult to tell so that's the situation oh golly is that me it's a nice uncle I like that uncle uncle Shane all right you guys have a fantastic day it's a brand -new
week starting with a solar eclipse in America.
So I hope that nothing strange happens.
Did you know that during a solar eclipse, nocturnal animals that is animals who like to do things at night, they will actually come out as though it is night.
So I'm hoping to see maybe a red fox.
That would be really cool.
Maybe a wolf. That'd be excellent.
Maybe even a cougar.
I would love to see some wildlife And then about 20 minutes later they realize what the heck the nighttime is over and they go back to sleep And then the daytime animals come back out kind of crazy stuff I'm wondering if my chickens are going to go crazy you guys have a fantastic day.
I'll talk to you tomorrow and together Let's English.
