Hello, everybody! Welcome back to daily Easy English Expressions.
Is it Friday? Oh, my God!
TGIF! Thank God it's Friday.
Are you happy that it is Friday for me?
Yeah, of course. I like everyday tomorrow.
I have some DDM VIP Lessons, but yeah for me Sunday is my day of rest That's the day when I don't have any classes, so I can actually relax so TGIF Yeah, for me more TGISaturday.
Thank God. It's Saturday, but anyway the weekend is here for most of you.
Today's expression is very good to weasel out of something.
To weasel out of something.
Did he weasel out? Don't weasel out of work.
He weaseled out. So weasel, let me spell it.
W -E -A -S -E -L, we don't say weasel we make it a Z sound weasel now weasel is actually an animal yeah it's a kind of animal and it's a really cute animal it ah do you know what a mere cat is probably not a ferret F.
E. R. R. E. T. Well, when you have a chance, go to Google and look up a picture of the weasel, W E A S E L.
It's a small animal but it's very long and it's very furry and it kind of looks like a cat.
It's very cute. But the idea of weasels is because they're small, they can go in and out of anything easily, especially a place where a farmer keeps chickens.
Oh yes, chicken farmers do not like weasels.
Weasels sneak into the chicken pen they steal a chicken and then they leave in and out they just and we don't know where how did they get in how did they get out oh my god these weasels are sneaky and evil if you ask a chicken farmer now as many of you know I now have chickens I have about 30 small chicks and if I see a weasel around my chickens boy something's gonna happen so anyway now you understand a weasel so to weasel out is a verb a phrasal verb yeah two words so how do we use this verb with people check out the dialogue where were you yesterday oh I hate company picnics I stayed home how'd
you weasel out I told the boss my daughter was sick Yeah, company picnics, do you work for a company?
Sometimes companies like to have dinners or picnics maybe on the weekend.
I worked for many companies like that in Korea.
Dinner, drinks, weekends, picnics.
To be honest, I hated it.
I'm not you know I went and sometimes.
I had a good time. Oh, but it was stressful for me.
It was really stressful I hated it So any chance I had I?
Would not go I wouldn't go but you can't Simply not go you have to have a reason you need to have an excuse and many times my excuses my reasons were lies.
Yeah, and in that situation I weaseled out.
Now sometimes I had an excuse like, I need to go to the doctor.
And people think, oh Shane is sick, he needs to go to the doctor, actually it was my friend he was sick and I just went to the doctor with him.
I weaseled out. I weaseled out of going to the dinner.
He weaseled out of doing the project.
There were four people, John, Tom, Jim, Rob.
They were supposed to do a project together but Rob never came.
He had some reason and we don't really believe his reason.
He weaseled out. We telling you to wash the dishes, but you weasel out.
You have some excuse.
I can't wash the dishes.
I have to do my homework.
Maybe it's your wife.
She asks you to do the taxes, but you weasel out.
I can't do the taxes today.
I have to go to the supermarket and buy potatoes.
Yeah, I don't know.
It's a bad excuse when somebody uses a bad excuse Probably a lie to not do something We can say they weaseled out.
Are you weaseling out?
Are you trying to weasel out?
Did you weasel out?
It's a great expression But it's not a good thing to do.
That's it today everybody now remember Don't weasel out of my left I want you to take those lessons get and we got free lessons So I know many people they sign up for the free lessons, but then they don't do them well, hey quit weaseling out quit making excuses do those lessons and seriously, if you are serious about learning English sign up for our classes DDM live DDM of VIP, perf, perf -open, DDM -open, DDM -light, anything.
