Today's expression very good roots.
R -O -O -T -S. All right so it's really easy.
Where are your roots.
So my roots are in northern Wisconsin.
That's where I grew up.
That's where actually I was born in Texas.
And then when I was like one years old, my mom you know, we'd moved to Wisconsin.
And I lived in Wisconsin until I was 18.
And then I went to the army.
I went to college. I lived in Korea until 2013.
Then When I came back to America, I lived in Las Vegas, and then I moved to Chicago, and now I'm outside of Chicago, but I'm back close to Wisconsin.
I'm close to my roots.
I like it. My roots, R -O -O -T -S.
What are my roots? It's where I grew up.
You have to think of a tree.
So we see the tree, we see the trunk of the tree, the wood, and then we see the leaves and the branches, but underground that's where the important part of the tree is, underground.
We don't see it, those are the roots and they get really big and really deep and they get the water and they get the nutrients, that's the foundation.
Where you're from, where you are from, where your roots are is important.
where you grew up. Your roots include your family traditions and your family values they would might include your religion maybe not they might include your neighborhood your your country the the area where you grew up so you know me once again me I'm from the country I'm a country boy and I've lived in the cities I've lived in Chicago I lived in Los Angeles I've lived in Seoul I've not really lived but spent a long time in Hong Kong in the city.
So you can take the country boy and put him in the city but even in the city I was still a country boy because my roots are in the country.
Check out the dialogue.
You like the area? Oh, it's nice but I don't want to put my roots down here.
Oh, why not? It's too urban.
I want my kids to grow up in the country.
Yeah. Exactly. So like I said, my roots, my roots, my roots are in Wisconsin.
That's where they are.
But I don't think I'll go back to my hometown.
I don't think that'll ever happen.
But so I so now I have to put roots down again.
And I don't wanna put them in the city, I wanna put my roots down in the country.
If I'm lucky and I start a family, I want my kids to grow up in the country, I want their roots to be just like my roots in the country.
I want that rural R -U -R -A -L not the urban background, you are B .A .M, I want the country background, not the city background, yeah.
For me, now this is just me, and I know many of you disagree, that's totally fine.
For me, the rural roots, I just like it.
It's just the way I like it.
So what about you? Where are your roots?
Do you still live in a place where your roots are?
Oh, you're lucky, for me, I think that's great.
You might not like it though, You might want to move to another place.
You might want to put your roots down someplace else.
Maybe you've immigrated.
Me, like I said, I used to live in Korea.
So for years and years I put my roots down in Korea.
And then I decided, nope, I need to go back home.
I need to go back home and be with my family.
And I need to put my roots back down in America.
and I did and then I decided not Las Vegas.
How about Chicago? I did and now I've decided not the city.
Let me go out to the country.
It doesn't matter where you put your roots down but you should recognize the importance of your roots never forget your roots and I hope that your roots are growing in the place where you are happy.
You guys have a fantastic day and together let's master English.
