They're saying something stupid.
They're saying something irrational.
They're saying something ridiculous.
They're saying something illogical.
So for example, I hate veggies.
I hate vegetables. Yeah, we understand that some people don't like vegetables, but come on it's unreasonable because vegetables are very healthy so you can say well still they're very healthy and they would say still I don't like it anyway they're very healthy anyway I don't like it.
We use this word still in these situations I don't want to go to school still you have to there's a law little kids have to go to school still I want to go once again anyway is the idea let's check out a dialogue and I think you'll get the feeling telemarketers are such a pain still you should be polite but they're rude still at least say goodbye yeah we talked about telemarketers last week yet telemarketers oh boy they can they can really bother you, but still, they're humans, it's their job.
But they're rude, they're impolite.
I know, but still, we should at least try to be nice.
At least say goodbye.
Don't just click, hang up the phone.
Still, we need to, you know, somewhat be nice.
Sorry, I'm busy goodbye, click.
At least that's better than nothing, right?
Still. You're going to hear this word a LOT and so many students get confused on what it means and you shouldn't be.
It doesn't really mean anything.
A similar word to use would be anyway.
Anyway, and again we use this word when a person is being unfair or when someone is saying something we don't like to hear it's unreasonable.
It's irrational. It's illogical.
It's stupid. And that situation if you want to argue then using the word still is very very common.
Again you'll hear it a lot.
That's today's expression.
