Hello everybody, welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression.
Okay, so on Tuesday we studied the verb to Josh.
and on Wednesday we studied the adjective earnest.
Interestingly today we're going to put those words together and it's going to be pretty funny.
Now today's expression is actually what a joke.
Now listen to the intonation.
What a Joke. Aw man, what a joke.
This is a joke. Aw what a joke.
I can't believe it.
What a joke. In this situation when we say what a joke, it doesn't mean, you know, a funny joke.
It means something is really stupid, or really bad, or really unbelievable, but usually in a negative way.
Not in a funny, funny, ha ha ha ha way.
More in a negative way you understand so for example I had plans This weekend to have a picnic outside, but now the weather says it's gonna rain rain rain rain rain I look and I say ah what a joke I can't believe it.
This is ridiculous Oh, yeah, God is laughing at my plans I can't have a picnic now what a joke this is terrible my goodness This is the idea of the expression what a joke check out the dialogue What a joke lat president Obama's press secretary's name is Josh earnest yeah, so Josh to lie earnest very serious, so He's a serious liar.

He truly is, amazingly, probably, a serious liar.
Now who knows? Maybe everything they say is the truth.
But do you know of any politician who tells the truth?
I'm not too sure. It's true.
What a joke. Oh my god.
Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
It's a great expression.
When can you use it?
That's what I want to know.
