Come on everybody, welcome back to daily easy English expression the podcast. Thank you so much for listening, thank you so much for your support.
I need to personally thank my new patrons and sponsors and I'll do that not today but I'll do that this week.
Thank you so much for allowing me to be a full time English teacher.
Today's expression is really good.
It is I could use something to drink or something to eat.
For example, today, I went to my mom's house.
It's labor day in America.
The first Monday of September is labor day in America.
up and my mom made a very delicious meal, but I ate too much ketchup.
Yeah, it was goulash, it was a delicious casserole, but I added too much ketchup and ketchup is a little bit salty and after the meal, my mom said, do you want anything?
And I said, I could use some water.
I could use some water and that just means I could, I want some water to drink.
please give me some water." That's what it means.
It's a great expression.
It doesn't mean you're going to use water to do something because usually when you use the verb USE, you use it to do something.
So let's say you are studying English.
What are you going to use your English for?
Some Some of you will use your English to get a good job.
Some of you will use your English to meet friends, to study, to get to a good school, to travel around the world, to be able to watch TV shows and movies.
There are many reasons for studying English.
But once again, in this case, use means drink or eat.
So the pattern is I could use...
something to drink.
I could use something to eat.
I could use some coke.
I could use a beer.
I could use a hamburger.
I could use a potato, a baked potato.
Lots of possibilities.
Check out the dialog.
Can I get you anything?
I could use a coffee.
Milk and sugar? Black, please.
There you go. Yeah, coffee.
So you go to a coffee shop or a restaurant after the meal or the waiter might say, can I get you anything?
And you could say, I could use a coffee.
I could use a coffee.
A coffee would be perfect.
I would like a coffee, please bring me a coffee, it's the same thing.
Now, I could use a coffee please, is perfect English at a restaurant or to somebody you don't know.
But if it's to your friend or to your mom, you can just say, I could use a coffee.
If it's to your wife, just say, coffee.
And then your wife will kill you.
Yeah, be careful. I do not advise that.
If your wife says, can I get you anything?
You should say to your wife, no, no, honey.
You sit down. I will get you something.
What can I get you?
And then the wife should say, I could use vodka.
Vodka. I could use a glass of vodka or whatever.
Milk. Coffee. I could use some ice cream.
Give me some ice cream.
Right now, right now.
What would you like to drink or what would you like to eat?
For me right now, it's 10 .24 at night but you know what?
I could use a coffee.
I'm serious. Yeah, coffee right now sounds good to me.
I could use a coffee.
Okay, how about you?
What would you like to have?
What would you like to drink or eat right now?
And I want you to use the expression, I could use, dah dah dah dah dah.
I could use a cup of coffee, I could use some coffee, I could use a coffee, although those are possible.
Write your sentence and let me know what you could use.
