I'm Tori. Today is Monday, April 7, 2025, and we begin with the great eight eclipsing the great one.
Yesterday Washington Capital's forward, Alex Ovechkin, scored his 895th career goal, icing the longstanding record held by hockey legend Wayne Gretzky for more than 25 years.
Alex, also known as Alexander the Great and the Great Eight because of his jersey number, found the back of the net in the second period.
The game was immediately paused, a ceremony was held on center ice, and in a true sign of good sportsmanship, Wayne Gretzky was the first one to shake his hand.
They say records are made to be broken, the great one, told Alex and the crowd, but I'm not sure who's going to get more goals than that.
The opening bell is ringing this morning on a bruised and battered Wall Street.
What happens today is anyone's guess.
But late last week, the stock market took a historic beat down.
Not since the pandemic in 2020 have stocks fallen so hard and so fast. And the reason is uncertainty surrounding President Trump's tariffs or taxes on products from other countries.
Among the companies reacting?
Nintendo. It had planned to start taking pre -orders for its much anticipated switch to video game console this Wednesday But within hours of Mr. Trump's trade announcement, delayed those pre -orders indefinitely.

A somber principal, Kylie Woods, gathered her 11th graders at Wollongong High School of the Performing Arts in the auditorium and broke the bad news.
A mandatory thirteenth year had been added.
They'd now be graduating in 2027 instead of 2026 and there was no getting around it.
Understandably, that news didn't sit well—hidden cameras caught the kids as they gasped, threw their hands in the air, and held their faces in distress.
Principal Woods kept the ruse going just long enough to convince them before ending with, quote, one other vital piece of information—that it was all a joke and they'd been had.
She told Nine Now, it's a very serious world that we live in, so we thought we'd bring little bit of fun.
And I think it's just super important that we learn to laugh at ourselves.
