Hello, everybody! Welcome back to Daily Easy English Expressions.
Today's podcast is brought to you by DDM, my listening class, and if you sign up today I'll give you a free gift. Oh yeah, free.
Free stuff is cool.
Today's expression is to swerve, S -W -E -R -V -E.
It's a verb to swerve.
And the idea of this verb is to turn quickly, suddenly, to swerve.
so you're driving down the street could be in a car could be on a bicycle could be in a plane although if you're driving in a plane you would be flying a plane and it wouldn't be on the street but anyway and then let's say a ball like a basketball suddenly comes into the street you move use you swerve you swerve the car, you turn suddenly that's the idea that's it yeah that's today's expression thank you bye no no no so this is a useful expression once again when you're driving or when you're riding in a car, riding in a bus, riding on a bicycle that's the idea suddenly they turn and if you're
holding coffee now the the reason I'm teaching this expression is what happened I was holding a coffee I I was in a taxi and we're driving down the road, I wasn't watching, obviously.
The taxi driver was watching, thank God.
A car suddenly came into the street and the taxi driver swerved to the left and I spilled my coffee all over the window and door of the car and onto my pants.
I was very sorry to him, but the taxi driver was a great guy.
He said no, no, don't worry actually.
He said Anya, Anya, Kenshana, Kenshana Well, because it was in Korea when that happened, but anyway he swerved and I lost my coffee He was sorry that I lost my coffee.
I was sorry that I made his car messy, but we were both very angry at the idiot who came out on to the street Be careful when you're out there driving.
Be careful if you're a kid and you're playing basketball.
Don't play next to the street.
It's dangerous. You might be safe, but if your ball goes into the street you might cause an accident because a car or a bicycle or a bus is going to swerve when they see a ball or God forbid a child or an animal.
it's scary stuff swerve yeah so swerve it's actually kind of a scary word let's check out the dialogue why that guy swerve oh a dog oh oh oh that's so dangerous let's drive slowly yeah you're driving down the street and there's a car in front of you and suddenly the car swerves and you wonder why why why did the guy swerve was there something in the street was there an animal maybe maybe there was some glass in the road you know was there a basketball was there a person what happened and then suddenly you see it there's a dog a dog next to the street oh if you're going fast it can be so dangerous.
Yeah, be careful. Be careful when you're driving be careful when you're riding your bike.
Be careful when you're flying your airplane maybe I don't know.
You know, we have some pilots we do listening to this podcast. There are a couple of pilots driving planes and helicopters flying.
So guys tell Tell me, uh, do you ever swerve when you're flying?
Let me know. I'm, I'm curious.
I'm sure you can swerve a plane.
Sounds kind of dangerous.
At the same time, it sounds kind of fun.
Let us know. Be safe, everybody.
Be safe. I hope that you never have to swerve in your life.
Be safe forever. Check out the dialogue two more times.
And then a little bit about DDM.
And a free gift. Why that guy swerve?
Look out! Oh! A dog!
Oh ho ho. Oh, that's so dangerous.
Let's drive slowly.
Huh! Why that guy swerve?
Look out! Oh! A dog!
Oh ho ho ho. Oh, that's so dangerous.
Let's drive slowly.
