Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
You and me every day, come on.
Let's Master English.
Hello everybody! Welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression the Podcast. Today's podcast is brought to you by Amazon and our book club.
A brand new book, it's so excellent, you can get it for free.
Listen at the end of today's podcast. Today's expression is so good I'm giving you a noun and a verb and a phrasal verb.
You should pay for this lesson.
So the noun is a much. M -O -O -C -H.
A much. the verb is to mooch, M -O -O -C -H, to mooch, past tense, mooch -t, E -D, you know present progressive, I -N -G, mooching and the phrasal verb is to mooch off someone, to mooch off M -O -O -C -H, preposition O -F -F and then someone, to mooch off someone.
okay so there you go, mooch, too much and too much off someone to mooch off me to mooch off my dad to mooch off of someone is also possible so what does it mean too much oh boy too much is bad too much means to take something or use something or eat something that belongs to somebody else, but to take it, to eat it, to use it like it is your own.
For example, if you come to my house, I have many books.
Oh, and I love my books.
Lots of history books, lots of ESL books for learning English.
Lots of very interesting books.
Lots of business books, too.
And I used to have a friend, he's no longer my friend, but he would come to my house and he would look at my books and he would not even ask me.
He would just take a book and take it home.
He would never ask!
Now sometimes he would bring it back but other times he would never bring it back and I would go to his house and I would see my book and I would take it.
It's crazy! But not only books, CDs, music CDs, DVDs, movies, yes it's the same thing.
But I must say I am also guilty.
The other day I was looking at my DVDs and I noticed that I had several DVDs that I never bought.
There's somebody else's.
I have no idea whose DVDs those are, but now they're mine.
Where did I get those DVDs?
I mooched them. I took them from a friend, and as if they were my own, and I never returned them.
Isn't that terrible?
It's a great word. He's a mooch. He always takes things.
Don't mooch off me.
He always mooches off me.
Can I mooch a piece of gum?
Give me a piece of gum as if it were my own.
That's the idea. It's a great expression.
Are you a mooch? Do you have a friend who's a mooch?
Check out the dialogue.
Where'd you get those Doritos?
by the microwave. Those are my Doritos, you mooch!
Those were your Doritos, thanks!
Stop mooching off me!
Honey, you're my wife!
Ow! Doritos. Do you know what Doritos are?
D -O -R -I -T -O -S Doritos?
They're a very delicious chip.
Like a potato chip except it's I think it's a corn chip with a cheese.
Oh, it's so delicious Doritos mmm Doritos.
I love Doritos cookies Yeah, if you know what I went to my dad's house the other day and my dad bought these chocolate chip cookies now Usually chocolate chip cookies for a package.
It's like two dollars But there are some really good chocolate chip cookies, but they're like $6 for a box.
It's really expensive.
So when I saw that my dad had those cookies, I took about six of them.
I was mooching off my dad.
I mooched his chocolate chip cookies.
They're delicious! two much m o o ch I much I was a mooch m o o ch oh yes yep especially for food if you smoke you might mooch cigarettes food drinks books CD's DVDs blu -ray discs yeah that's the idea oh maybe your cell phone mooching data watching if you have And you use your friends cell phone to watch a Youtube video you're mooching his data You're stealing that's what it is basically you're stealing Well, that's what we do The world is full of mooches.
Are you not a mooch?
If you're not a mooch, I want to hear from you You're a great person Let's check out that dialog 2 more times and I'll tell you about our book club.
Where'd you get those Doritos?

Honey, you're my wife.
Oww! We have a book club which is so great, Coach Shane's book club, and we meet live every week, every week.
Thursdays at lunchtime, Los Angeles.
So for Europe, that's like 7, 8 PM, pretty convenient for Europe.
Now for Asia, it's pretty tough.
But, we do have a couple guys in Asia, especially Danny in Taiwan, he wakes up at 4 am to join us.
Danny, you're awesome.
Now, we have a new book for our book club and you can get it for free.
The book is called A Secret Gift. It's a wonderful book.
It's written by Ted Gup, T -E -D, His last name is gut GUP a secret gift. This is a book that was recommended to me By one of my DDM students Jean Marie.
He's reading it It's and I agree.
It's a fantastic book It takes place in America in the 1920s 30s in the Great Depression.
Oh This is such a wonderful book 1933, Christmas 1933 this will give you a window into America and I always for our book club is based on an audible book and audio book and those are difficult but this book is excellent as an audio book.
It's just wonderful it has letters from Americans talking about their difficulties, and I don't no, it's it's a wonderful, fantastic book.
So I want you to join.
You can get this book for free.
If you go here, www .audibletrial .com, slash L M E.
Once again, www .audibletrialaudibletrial .com, slash L M E.
now this is amazon you know the big company amazon they're sponsoring me and they're recommending that you join in a subscription to get audible books and I agree it's fantastic you can get this book for free now what happens is at the end of a month they will charge you or they'll ask you if you want to join and and they'll charge you $14 .95 a month.
You can cancel. Don't worry, you can cancel.
However, don't. Be like me and the rest of our book club members and join.
Usually an audio book is about 20, $22, but if you pay that membership $14 .95 a month, you can get any book at that price.
So if you're a member of Coach Shane's Book Club, you'll use it every month and we've got we've studied some wonderful books, some great books and I think you're gonna really like this book so every week we listen to about two hours of the book.
Now some students including me I actually have the print version and the audio version and if you're an ESL student an student to be honest, I always recommend the students read it and then listen.
So read one chapter then listen to the chapter.
This is such an excellent way to work on your English.
It's a brilliant way.
If your English is pretty good, then only do the audio.
If your English is not good, then wait.
Seriously, then wait.
When doing both. I'm serious do them both, get the text and the audio.
It's the best way to do it.
So yeah a secret gift by Ted Gupp.
G -O -P, fantastic book.
Get it for free, join our book club.
If you want to join the book club you have to send me an email.
My email is, just send it here, what is it, dailydictationmembersatgmail .com, dailydictationsmembersatgmail .com and I will forward your email to our book club manager and we'll make sure that we invite you.
Oh, and we also, we have a newsletter, a study guide that we send out.
So this is an incredible way.
The book club is for free.
You do have to sign up for the audible books if you want them But once again the first one is free, and then after that it's free So if you're not doing it do it.
