Hello everybody, welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression!
Oh yeah, you know the other day I had a very sore throat and so I took some medicine.
I went to the drug store to the pharmacy and I bought some medicine and oh boy I took they said take one but my throat was really in pain so I took two oh my goodness uh I felt tired I went to sleep I slept for like eight hours and this is in the morning so I woke up in the morning.
I went to the drugstore.
I bought some medicine.
I took two pills and then boom, I slept for another eight hours.
After I woke, I felt better, but I realised Oh my goodness.
I took too many drugs, too many pills.
And today's expression is one one too many.
I took one too many pills for my cold." This is a great expression, and the nuance is you're supposed to take a lot or it's okay to take a lot but if you take too much, it's no good.
So the idea is this.
If you're listening to an American, you know, an American is talking to you, but you don't understand what they said, so you say, excuse me, and then the American repeats what they said.
But you still don't understand.
So one more time you say, Oh, I'm sorry, my English is no good.
Can you repeat that, please?
And the American says it one more time, but you still have no idea what they said.
Do you ask again? Most people would not, because most people would realize, oh asking again is just one too many.
I already asked twice.
That's a lot. If I ask one more time, it's too much. It's one too many.
I'll give you one more example.
Some of you might like to drink beer or maybe drink vodka or rum or wine or something else, something else delicious in your country, some alcohol.
The key is alcohol and you can have one beer.
That's okay two beers Feeling good.
No problem three beers Four beers, whoo better stop Five beers now you are sick You cannot walk you had one too many four beers was okay you should have stopped but you had one more beer boom too much one too many it's a great expression talking about the upper limit the threshold of what you can endure now check out the dialogue this is a great example too are are you angry?
do you like Carol? no!
she's just a friend!
you smiled at her one time too many!
uh oh! that man is in trouble!
so there's a woman her name is Carol and the man smiled at the woman the wife didn't like it.
But maybe one smile is okay.
But then the man smiled again.
Now the wife is angry.
She's even suspicious.
And then the guy smiled again.
Oh boy, now the wife she's she's she hits him.
So he says, are you angry?
Yeah. Yes, she's mad.
You smile at the woman one time, too many.
One too many smiles.
Be careful. Men and women, if you have another.
If you have a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, be careful with those smiles.
Don't be asking for trouble.
You're going to get in trouble.
Right now, I'll be honest, I'm feeling a little sick to my stomach. No, I'm okay.
I'm not sick but I'm feeling sick to my stomach and the reason is, if you saw my Facebook picture the other day, I have some homemade baklava.
Oh, it's so delicious, and if you've ever eaten baklava, you know that it is very sweet and one baklava is great.
It's it's not enough to baklava is is really good three baklava is That's that's a lot For baklava is whoo?
That's Be careful, you better stop But about an hour ago.
I ate six baklava is so now I'm feeling kind of sick.
I had one too many I ate one too many I had one baklava too many actually I think I had two too many but the expression is one too many boy this is what 279 note note 280 I can never count so many podcasts ah this is one too many I've made enough podcast I'm to stop tomorrow?
